Small Steps Are Better Than No Steps

Friday, August 30, 2013

Well the treadmill arrived yesterday. My dear husband spent 2 hours putting it together last night. I then, with his help, arranged my office/workout room. Décor wise the room is less than appealing. But what I did accomplish is putting together a room that houses my treadmill and my weight bench with weights. I also have my exercise bands in there. Once we get a monitor or tv for the room I can bring in the workout DVD’s as well. For now the DVD’s and the Wi Fit are in the living room.

I’m not as big about using the living room options at this point as I am that office/workout room. Having it together will help in giving me that space and hopefully with it the desire to be consistent with working out. I decided I need to inflate my exercise ball too and use it in place of my desk chair. I’m told that is really bonus way to work out. I will go for bonus rounds wherever I can.

I read the manual on my treadmill this morning. Wow….so much to think about. This treadmill also has the IFit option. Something I may invest in at a later date as I progress. Notice the positive talk…”as I progress”. Not if…but when. I can do this. It may not happen instantly (for isn’t that the way we all wish it did?) but it will happen with perseverance and determination. It is that same perseverance and determination that would get me to walk across crowded, hot, huge fairgrounds to get to my favorite funnel cake vendor. Now I can use those same tools for goodness towards my body instead of the bad I was heaping on it.

So, it is time for me to go put on my workout clothes and a pair of sneakers and go for my first walk on the treadmill. I may only make the 10 minute mark on it for my first time out but dang it will be 10 more minutes than I had yesterday. I will just keep building each day. Given my blood pressure and arthritis I will listen to my body. But my body is also going to get pushed a little to get a push off from the starting gate.

Good for you. Walking is one of the best things you can do for your health! Start with 10 minutes and build from there. It may be hard at first, but it will get easier. I have a TV with a DVD player and I put in some of my favorite movies, it makes the time fly by!

Good for you! I can't afford a treadmill, but, I do have a free membership for the Y. I need to start making use of that. Baby steps are often the way to get started. My steps are very tiny baby steps, but they are there too. Keep up the good work!!!
