Restaurant week continues! After a pretty demanding personal training session last night, my husband and I decided to use my birthday free entrée coupon we had at Applebees ( wp.me/p1N36Q-fU
). I’ve always liked that Applebees makes it easy for people who are watching calories with their “Under 550 menu” and Weight Watchers partnership.
My last experience there was in January, and I think was the only time in my life I ever walked out of a restaurant before ordering. I remember that it was late afternoon and not terribly busy, so my husband and I were seated pretty quickly.
And then we were ignored. I think we patiently sat for about 10 minutes. Patiently tried to wave down someone’s attention for another 5 minutes. Then lost all patience, got up, and left. I hate not being acknowledged – doesn’t help that I tend to be grouchy when I’m hungry.
I know, I know – #FirstWorldProblems.
So giving me a freebie is definitely a great way to earn another chance. And seeing as it’s been 8 months since I’ve been there, I was remaining optimistic that things would be better.
And optimism paid off! Service definitely improved. Using their online allergen information ( www.applebees.com/~/medi
), I was able to choose from a few different wheat free options in their ‘guiltless’ menu. Grilled Jalapeno Lime Shrimp? Blackened Tilapia? Or Napa Chicken and Portobellos?
I decided to go with the chicken.
The funny thing is that I would NEVER have ordered anything with mushrooms a year ago. But I find I don’t hate them. I’m expanding my dietary horizons.
The only mistake I made was going here after a personal training session. Usually I don’t get an appetizer, but I couldn’t pass up wheat free chips and salsa after doing 8 million burpees.
