Blackberries for free

Thursday, August 29, 2013

Yesterday evening was one of those lovely late summer evenings when the sun shines and is warm but not too warm and we went out walking. After about 15 minutes we came across a blackberry bush with the plumpest ripest blackberries I have seen in years.

We returned home and collected bags then off we went to this fabulous abundance and plucked just enough to make ourselves a lovely crumble for supper. The rest we left for the next walker or for the birds to enjoy and we will maybe return over the weekend and pick some more if any remain.

We found it really strange that it was just the one bush that was so loaded with the lovely plump berries, we passed many others but they had just little dry looking berries with no appeal whatsoever. Mind you, the nettles were also growing extremely well where this bush is and I had two very painful little fingers but never mind, that was the best crumble I have eaten in years and even better because the fruit was free.

Five dollars a pint is not so bad when I sometimes see them in our local supermarket for £2.99 for a tiny little punnet - reckon we picked 5 punnets in total and they really are delish! emoticon

Blackberries are great, what a lucky find for you! They don't grow well here, so we are stuck with buying them.

I love blackberries.....did you know they want up to five dollars for a pint of them here in Florida. I'll bet that makes free even taste better. Where ever you found them, keep it a secret.....thanks.
