August came & went

Okay, over the last month…the downsizing was a success! I moved from a 3/2 duplex into a 1/1 apartment. Although I was DREADING the sorting, garage sale, packing and unpacking of my stuff went well; I can say that now that it’s all past me. It’s time to get back to a routine!

Running-I am trying to train for a half marathon, for two reasons. I have the Tough Mudder obstacle/mud run coming up in October and its 12 miles. I also want to just simply run a half marathon, to prove to myself I can do it. My new place is very close to the trails where people run and bike so I have no excuses. I also am part of a social running club that meets 2-3 times a week and that will help me as well. I don’t doubt I can work up to running longer distances; it’s my knee and ankle that tend to bug me on occasion. I wear a wrap/brace type thing that seems to help and of course, R.I.C.E.

I always pack a lunch, snacks included, to take to work. I am getting burned out and would welcome any ideas. I have a small backpack cooler that holds everything and I have access to a microwave for re-heating. My old faithful is: whole wheat pasta, spinach salad, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, and whole grain crackers. Today I added a broccoli normandy mix and a Nutri grain bar. I always have almonds in my desk as well. I am not opposed to healthy sandwiches but I can’t get out of the thought “I need chips with my sandwich” so I avoid that usually. I just need to get online and do some research. Honestly, I hate the prep involved but after I have 2-3 days packed up and waiting in my fridge at home, I feel so much better.

September will be here soon. That means the 30 Day Squat Challenge from August is wrapping up, thank goodness!!! I have one more day to go, 250 and I’m done. I should have a rest day before then but I just want it overwith already! I am bored with them at this point. BUT…my quads, hamstrings and booty are firm, slightly sore too but worth it! I didn’t take any measurements before I started so I have no idea how they changed shape or size. I know they didn’t get any bigger, just toned. At the beginning when I saw this challenge would end with 250 squats I thought “no way” but I have surprised myself. I kept up with it (through a move even) and will complete it on time. And to those that did the challenge with me, thanks for the constant support & encouragement!

Now, what to challenge myself with in September…

    I like to plan my meals and snacks too--it helps keep me from making poor choices through the day.

One of my favorites is a bean and veggie salad. Pretty simple, I use black beans (rinsed and drained), onion, peppers, tomatoes, celery. It is also good with some cucumber. Some people use corn, but I don't want the starch. I dress it with lots of fresh lime juice and balsamic vinegar to taste (or a light balsamic dressing). I eat this as a side dish or on a green salad. It tastes even better the next day. This is also excellent as a topping on scrambled egg whites.

Another favorite is just some hummus for fresh veggies.

I made it through the squat challenge. Like you, I was ready for it to be over. LOL
I didn't think to take measurements either, but I can tell a difference in the way my shorts fit now. I even started wearing a pair that had been too tight. WooHoo

    I also took this challenge with my glad tomorrow is the last day..I was getting burned out on them..Good job on hang in there...Awesome that you are getting ready to run a half marathon..Good Luck and enjoy! Enjoy your Labor Day as well! emoticon

  I know I can't wait for tomorrow to be over too, and I can't believe we are going to have built up to 250...crazy! Awesome job getting it done during the move. My suggestion to you for lunch since the weather will be changing is soup. It's very easy to make and you can do so many different varieties with totally healthy ingredients. Before Reggie, I would make up several different varieties and put them in individual serving containers in the freezer. So like one week I would make a huge pot of chili and put those in the freezer, the next week a Mexican chicken soup with lots of vegies...etc. So it was cooking once a week for lunches that would last for a long time. And then I wouldn't have to think so hard about lunches all the time. I think I'm going to start doing that again, as a matter of fact! Hope that helps...Hugs...Robin
