We have never been on an Amtrak Train so for our vacation this year we took a 6.1/2 hour ride from San Diego to Santa Barbara, California. My sister-in-law and her husband were also going with us as well as my sister and her husband.
This is Barbara & Jerry (sister-in-law & husband.) We drove over to San Diego together and ate lunch at a restaurant called Janet`s...located 1 hour away from San Diego in Alpine, California. A really neat little place that Barbara & Jerry discovered last year.
This is mine & Barbara`s lunch. She had a grilled chicken salad and I had a grilled chicken sandwich with fresh fruit.
Me & my husband David
We arrived at the train station about 8:30 a/m the next a/m.
Amtrack train station....leaving for Santa Barbara
Sister , Donna & her husband Steve
Inside the train....I climbed these stairs more than once to the next level where the snack bar was.
I bought some pretzels as I got nauseous riding backwards on the train. We brought SUBWAY sandwiches for lunch before we left San Diego
A spacious bathroom is behind this door
We arrived at our hotel about 3:30 p/m.....it was an easy walk only 3 blocks from the train depot.
Interesting trees by the station
We stayed at the "Harbour Inn"....The view from our balcony was so beautiful
Inside our room....even had chocolates on our bedside table at night.
We walked through this opening several times a day. This lead us to the ocean, pier, restaurants, shopping, etc.
Out and about....here is the gang
LOVED the pier
Stearn`s Warf was built in the 1800`s
star fish attached to the pier...can you see them? They are orange.
My sister, her husband, David & I ate lunch on the pier.....I had fish tacos...they were so good. I did not eat the fries.
This 57 Chevy police car was parked on the pier
Walking on Main street...I saw this sign...too funny!
We took the trolley and visited the Old Mission Santa Barbara
Some chalk art on the asphalt by the mission
Inside the mission...the paint is all made from natural berries....nothing artificial
Took the train back on Wednesday afternoon to San Diego where my sister lives. We stayed there for a few days and then headed for home on Friday.
We planned to eat breakfast at the same restaurant where we had lunch in only a few days before.
On the way home we stopped in Yuma, Arizona at the Yuma state prison.....it was closed . We will stop another time.
It was a wonderful trip and I would love to go back to Santa Barbara, some day.
There is another part of our vacation that I will save for another blog. Barbara, my sister and myself went to "The Pageant of the Masters". This is where volunteers become part of art. This year was their 80th year. The event was called, "the Big Picture". It was very impressive.
