I think I'm having a classic midlife crisis. The feeling was just beginning to make itself known back in April...and was NOT helped along by a bored and just-doing-her-job clerk at Joann Fabrics who offered me the Senior Discount. I figured initially that it wasn't that bad, as 50 is only a few months off. Turns out their standard for Senior Discount is SIXTY. Excuse me!!!!
Then just this month I was repeatedly mistaken for my fathers' sister. And a 30-ish very talkative man on the flight home said I looked familiar and he thought maybe I was one of his mothers' friends from Sydney.
I even want a bright red shiny car. My husband was a bit astounded when I made that want known. I think he's coming over to the Dark Side though because he was actually negociating with a dealer for a beautiful red Mazda sedan I was admiring.
Anyway, when I was a lot younger in the 80's, I loved vintage clothing. "Pin-up" photography is becoming really popular here, so I booked in for a photo session yesterday. So much fun! A really good beautician gave me a Marilyn Monroe hairdo, false eyelashes and eyeliner for days. Big red lips. I didn't do any of the really cheeky or revealing cheesecake photos....that will be my reward for finally managing to shift this excess weight. I'm hoping the particular photos where I'm posed in the kitchen holding the bowl/spoon and the martini glass turns out because that's pretty close to who I really am. ;)
I had to show off this photo taken yesterday after I got home. This is my handsome son Kostas, his new "Mom" tattoo, and me. Yesterday was a complete vanity day, and it did me good. I think we all need to do things like this for ourselves every so often.
