Are you happy?

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

My mom and I were talking last night about how the things people want don't make them happier. The bigger house. The newer car. These things don't make them (me and mine included) any happier or more at peace once they are acquired.

Then she asked me whether I was happy now that I had lost so much weight.

I told her that was a really good question and that I knew one thing... eating the way I did "before" did NOT make me happy.

Maybe this culture (the U.S.) puts too much emphasis on "the pursuit of happiness."

Maybe happiness is one of those things that just becomes more elusive the more you chase after it.

Have you ever heard a story about a little girl who was trying to catch butterflies (or ladybugs) and couldn't catch any? The story always ends with the girl giving up - letting go - and then the butterflies come and land on her.

If we let go, will happiness land on us?

My previous posters have typed most of what I would.. I couldn't agree more with them..

Losing my weight will not make me happy .. but healthier able to live longer if so is my destiny..

It will make doing the physical things easier .. let me enjoy things my weight has let me hold back on.. but then again.. maybe I just used the weight.. it is all relative ..

Yes, I believe when we let go of all the petty stuff, happiness will find us!

Love reading about all of this awakening and AWARENESS!! :-)

I can attest, right here and now...as I lose everything of 'value' in my world...I am happier, more full, more fulfilled and more at peace than I have EVER been in my life!! :-).

THERE IS NOTHING TO PURSUE!!1 Everything we want is ALREADY INSIDE of us! We cover it UP with the crap we lay on top. Let it all go...and you will discover you had it ALL the entire time!!!

    love you Stephanie!!

You are at the point of awareness! This is knowing that " things" dont make you happy. Love does. Being aware lets you slowly realize that we are born perfect and divine. Anything added to that only takes away from it. What makes us better is love. So what if nothing material matters? You begin to see all the love you can acquire, instead of things. And you still work hard because you love yourself and expect to do your best whenever you do something. You do everything with an intention..."I clean this sink because it keeps us healthy."
Practice seeing love and doing things with intention...and you will start to feel happiness beyond belief.

Then in a little while...Ask again, " Why did you lose weight?" Seek this answer so you do this weight loss right. Or maybe ask, "why did you do things that were not healthy before?" When you know this...and face this, even more joy will come to you. emoticon

    I hear you!
I have stopped looking to be happy, because in my opinion happiness is so fleeting. I do want JOY, though. That is something that can be a constant, regardless of my circumstance.

I definitely agree with you about the pursuit of happiness...it's elusive. We can chase and chase and chase but if we never stop and find the happiness in the moment then all we are doing is pursuing instead of living.

I may not always find happiness, but I think I at least *try* to live happy. :-)

Good question though...and it's funny how sometimes it is easier to define what does NOT make us happy then what does. LOL
