My mom and I were talking last night about how the things people want don't make them happier. The bigger house. The newer car. These things don't make them (me and mine included) any happier or more at peace once they are acquired.
Then she asked me whether I was happy now that I had lost so much weight.
I told her that was a really good question and that I knew one thing... eating the way I did "before" did NOT make me happy.
Maybe this culture (the U.S.) puts too much emphasis on "the pursuit of happiness."
Maybe happiness is one of those things that just becomes more elusive the more you chase after it.
Have you ever heard a story about a little girl who was trying to catch butterflies (or ladybugs) and couldn't catch any? The story always ends with the girl giving up - letting go - and then the butterflies come and land on her.
If we let go, will happiness land on us?
