Doesn't pay to plan

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

I was suppose to have a colonoscopy and endoscopy on August 9. I had it all planned out. I was going to have the homecare service that supplies my homemaker and choreperson take me in and pick me up. This way I wouldn't have to bother anyone so early in the morning. My Mom isn't exactly a hop, skip and jump from where I live and my friend Gary was in Bermuda or Alaska. Then the papers arrived in the mail, no patient will be discharged to public transportation or to a livery service. I called them up and told them this is the only transportation I had and they said they wouldn't do it then until I had someone pick me up. I told them I had no one and they told me to find a neighbor or someone. I was very mad I guess people who are alone don't deserve to have medical tests.

I had to call my Mom and tell her. I knew she couldn't drive all that way, she has basically given up driving except locally to the store and to the gym. That left my brother Chuck Even though Mom is taking care of him, he hasn't worked in 5 years, and I do alot for him, he is none too pleased. It takes alot of gas you know. Like he is paying for it. It takes him from his games on the computer, that is his gripe. Everything was set for this Friday, August 30. I was driving myself to be there at 7:30. My Mom would come with Chuck to pick me up at 11:30. I would drive home with my Mom and Chuck would drive my car home. It is only about a 5 minute or so drive. This way they wouldn't have to wait at my house for the 3 hours or get up so early. Win win situation or so we thought.

Last Friday my Mom ended up in the ER. She has a kidney stone. She has had it for awhile but it hasn't bothered her for sometime so they decided to leave it alone. Now it is on the move again and she is in pain. They are going to sedate her and hammer it. Guess when they are doing it. If you guessed Friday, you are right. So now I have no one to pick me up again. I can't cancel again, the Dr will drop me. I already had one Dr. drop me because I cancelled twice. My Mom is waiting until Mike to get home from FL to see if he will take her and Chuck can still pick me up. That would solve me getting home, but I still have no way to get there, because she isn't coming so Chuck can drive my car home. I am going to be working on this today. I know it will work out, it is just that nothing ever goes as planned. I was thinking of asking my landlord since they live right downstairs but they don't get up until 8:30 I will work on this today, and my Mom said she will call me tomorrow after talking to Mike. I know my landlord can't pick me up, because the center said he is too old and won't understand the discharge instructions that they will be given to him. You would think I was having major surgery done or something.

What a pain. I know they want someone there so they can explain the discharge instructions and that is why they will not use a livery service or transportation service, but it is an inconvenience. Last year my husband could not get off work and I had my sister-in-law drop me off and my step-daughter pick me up. A couple of weeks ago I took my sister for hers, I was out of town and then just drove to her place from the airport and stayed over night. It is just sometimes crazy to try and do the scheduling.
Good luck in getting it worked out!

It is now late in the day. I really hope you were able to get your transportation worked out. I know this won't help now, but sometimes the Red Cross will provide transport.

Oh Lord what a mess Bonnie. Why can't rules and regs be relaxed occasionally in favour of good old common sense!!
Hope your mum is okay and you can get this sorted, Diane has a good point--it's worth a call!!

Take care emoticon

Oh what a mess, hopefully you will figure it out. I hope your mom gets her stone taken care of and feels better too. I don't understand why they wont let your landlord pick you up, wont they send you papers home with the instructions anyways ? sometimes I think the Drs like to make things impossible for us, good luck I hope it all works out for you.

I looked at your Spark Page and notice you are a senior citizen! You might consider calling senior citizen centers in your area. In our area there have volunteers who drive patients to appointments. You would be expected to donate at least gas money. Even if you don't go to a church, you could call and ask if they have a volunteer. One other option is looking in the yellow pages under senior citizens. Our area has companies called senior services. They do whatever seniors want, including transportation, for about $10 hr. Good luck with transportation and great test results!

It is so hard to ask for help, especially when you know the person will not be overjoyed to help. I hope this works out for you. Hugs, Laurel emoticon
