Fitness Numbers

Today ends week 2 of my carb cycling experiment. I am not going to focus on carbs tonight though. I want to have my 2-week weigh in tomorrow to get the whole picture.

What I'm looking at now is fitness minutes and calories burned. It's so hard to burn the most calories in the least amount of time and get lots of steps! emoticon You see I am in a challenge that counts miles walked. So I've been trying to walk more. emoticon But... walking isn't necessarily the highest calorie burner so I like to do other things, like ST and circuit training that burns a lot of calories but doesn't amount to many steps. Anyway, I am still working on finding a balance.

Here is my calories burned in August:

I think they are mostly good but I would like to be consistently in the 400-500 calories most days. I know that's a tall order but hopefully I can work it out. emoticon

    It seems like this approach penalizes you if you don't achieve a certain # of steps -- is that right? So like you said, there are other activities that can really burn up the calories, and to me, that is the key. Steps are great if you can't do anything else, but like with my Achilles tendon, I've had to stop running, and I know my steps are down, but I'm swimming more, doing some machine cardio, etc, and it has worked just fine! Of course, I miss running A LOT, but I have to get the tendon healed up first.

    Yep, balance is a good thing to strive for, yet can be difficult to achieve. It looks to me that you are doing well. Just keeping track and reviewing your results like this can be very helpful and keeps us honest about what we are really doing. I know what you mean about your challenge (seeing as I am in the same one) -- most of my exercise yesterday came from swimming, which of course, did not help my steps challenge team at all.

    I know what you mean by finding the right balance. I find that I spend too much time trying to get steps instead of working mt whole body. I need to add more variety to my workouts.
