Woo hoo no early morning phone call

Monday, August 26, 2013

when we went back to visit FIL yesterday he was doing okay but had pain again in his stomach. The nurses called the doctor while we were there and she recommended something for the nurses to give him so off my DH and I went to get it. It was a shot and worked quickly. After the shot my FIL seemed to get his sense of humor back which was great to see. He still feels helpless but was making jokes about it. So we were happy to see that. We also took over many of the things that I had to drink to keep me hydrated as well as the nutritional drinks(the really expensive ones with tons of vitamins and nutrients). I was happy to hear my FIL say that he knows it's important for him to get the nutrition into him so he will heal. The problem is that it's so hard for him to eat lying down...so smoothies with protein and these other shakes are going to be good. We also finally found straws that bend so that is a bit help. Things are looking up. The doctor changed his order and my FIL must continue to lay flat and not even sit up into a 30 degree originally stated. So that makes it hard for him to see the computer to watch movies and such. Hopefully when the doctor comes on Tuesday he will agree to let him sit up more but we will see and follow doctor's orders.

My DH and I were tired after running around all day and came home around 5pm and I had my late lunch and we watched the rest of season one of Homeland. Really enjoying it. We have season two to start today if we get time.

Will walk the dogs and then get dressed and go check in on FIL and see what's up for today.

I hope you all are doing well and that this week will be a successful one for all of you. Again, I can't thank you all enough for your thoughts, comments and prayers. They always are so comforting to me to see at the end of a long day. I am holding my own and weighed in this morning at 106.5....that was up 1.5 pounds from yesterday which is fine as my high end goal is still 110 so I have room. I had Quinoa for the first time yesterday and not sure how much sodium was in it. It was in one of the meals that Carmen made for me with pot roast and carrots. It tasted good. It is also in the meal I am having today that also has Chicken Picata and asparagus.

Have an awesome week.
Sallie

Pray FIL heals quickly. Sounds like you are doing all the right things to help him do that. Make sure you take care of yourself also, care taking can take it toil even when you have people to help.

Your FIL is lucky to have you and hubby to check on him. I don't have anyone who would care for me if something happened, it is a scary thought sometimes.

I love quinoa. My mother introduced me to it a couple of years ago. I eat it for breakfast too!

I am glad that everything is coming along for your FIL. It is a long road to recovery.
The protein shakes should help him get the vitamins and the nutrients he needs. I will
still keep him in my prayers. Hope you have a good week!

Congrats on your continuing success with overcoming obesity. I saw you listed in the Hall of Maintainers (Hall of Fame Maintainers??) and was it 9 years you've had it off? Amazing! Hope hubby has kind of settled down from his impulse to move so that you both can think it through. Glad FIL is getting what sounds like good care. He is lucky to have you cheering him on and getting him what he needs. Be sure to take care of yourself during this busy and not stress-free time. -Marsha

  Quinoa

1 serving - 1/4 cups

calories 172
carbs 31.o grams
fat 2.8 grams
protein 6.0 grams (great protein source!)
sodium 1.0 mg
fiber 3.0 grams

Obviously there will be more sodium if you prepare it in stock or broth or add lots of salt. I typically don't prepare it with but 1/8 tsp. of salt. LOVE it as a breakfast. That way, though it's high in carbs, it gets "worked off" through the day.

HUGS and glad you're feeling ok. So sorry that your FIL can have even less movement! OMG, that has to be so difficult! HUGS and prayers. You're taking such god care of him. I am sure he appreciates it.
