Re-thinking August goals (in the last week of the month??)

I'm not going to swim laps for an hour. I know I could do it - strength training is making a big improvement in my swimming. But - swimming laps is boing. And it's such a big chunk of my workout time - I think the time can be better used doing strength training.
Sam is the trainer at the fitness facility where I swim. He's been teaching me TRX and helping me build a strength training program. He's got a pretty strong opinion that weight training does more to improve fitness than water aerobics can do.
I've been working out in the pool for a long time - more intensely and more successfully this year than ever. I used to bob like a buoy, head and shoulders far out of the water with no effort. Such a high percentage of body fat that I couldn't sink. Now I a-l-m-o-s-t can't keep my head above water without sculling - tho I can't stay under, either. Someday I will be able to SIT on the bottom of the pool!
But I'm shifting over to the weight room - machines, TRX, and freeweights. Still at least 6 hours a week, with cardio at home or in the pool on alternate days. A different emphasis might be a good change-up.
