Church, Beach, and Healthy Cooking
Sunday, August 25, 2013
What a wonderful Sunday! We started off at church, where we had an emotional service saying farewell to our retiring pastor. Afterwards, the kids had cupcakes, which didn't tempt me a bit, and DH and I splurged on coffees at Starbucks. DH is finally allowed to have coffee again after months with none so this was indeed a treat. (We both put vanilla almond milk in the coffee in place of creamer, which seemed like a huge indulgence - yum!)
After a lunch of sautéed farmer's market veggies, rice, and chicken, I took my 6-year-old and his friend to the beach, where we romped away the afternoon. It felt good to wear my swimsuit with confidence. I found a great suit a few years ago: a triangle halter top that stays in place and a bottom with a cute skirt attached so I'm not self-conscious about my JLo booty.
We ended with a late dinner: boiled cod fillets with farmer's market red potatoes and sweet corn. Kids had ice cream with magic shell for dessert, a super-big treat, DH ate Teddy Grahams, and I had two Hershey's Dark Chocolate Kisses. Even got in a workout today: actual strength training! (Did you hear that, GETSTRONGRRR? Strength training!)
Tomorrow I head back to work to prepare for the new school year. After a day like today, I can wake up tomorrow with a smile.
