Stomach Problems

Sunday, August 25, 2013

Feeling really tired today and my stomach hurts. I woke up this morning and my stomach felt really uncomfortable and I wasn't hungry. It felt as if my stomach hadn't digested dinner from last night but I don't understand why since I ate dinner at 5:30. After walking around, doing dishes, putting dishes away, and making breakfast for everyone I still wasn't hungry but forced myself to eat a 1/2 cup of Trader Joe's cereal with a 1/4 cup 2% milk and a small peach. Here it is almost lunch time and I feel stuffed. I have had problems with constipation, yes I know TMI (too much information) but nothing seems to work to help it. I tried eating more fiber, drinking more water, and tried setting a schedule to go but nothing has helped. I even tried stool softeners but those take forever to do anything but for me it doesn't work at all. I'm going to have to force myself to eat my tomato and alfalfa sprouts sandwich for lunch. I also went up .8 of a pound from yesterday so I'm wondering if it's because of being constipated. UGH this sucks! I've been to the doctors for this and they all say the same thing... eat more fiber, drink water, and exercise. I do all of those things and it doesn't help. Does anyone have any tips to help? Thanks in advance!

I have a relative who has had similar problems and dehydration is always a concern when you are unable to eat or drink. She uses an electrolyte drink called Vitalyte which is available at REI sports. Also she has recently tried probiotics and the one she got is gluten free and was called PB8. I also bought a similar probiotic that was on sale half price at Drvita.com and I was able to buy 4 months supply for $18.00 including shipping. Hope you might be able to try one of these ideas.

As someone who also has "stomach" problems, I commiserate. When you run your Daily Feedback, are you within the SP range for fiber? What about within the fat range? How is your fruit and vegetable intake? When I was eating too much fiber, I was not drinking enough water to deal with it and I created a problem. When I wasn't eating enough fat, that also created a problem.

Sending good thoughts and vibes your way that you're able to figure it out and whatever action you take makes you feel better.

I have a family member with a similar problem - his doctor recommended yogurt. I guess that is similar to suggestion for probiotics.
Also, if you're not a regular coffee drinker, try adding a small cup to your breakfast. The caffeine helps my system wake up in the morning - and not just my brain! emoticon

Try probiotics on an ongoing basis for a month to see if it helps (helps me!) And there are the food standbys -- prunes, figs, -- and a laxative if nothing else works.
