So after starting and quitting my weight loss program many many times over the past year and a half and ballooning up to my highest weight, I am finally feeling ready to do it for real. How did I come to this conclusion? My mom.
My mom is diabetic. She went to the doctor at the beginning of the year and he determined some of the medication wasn't working anymore because she had been taking it for so long. She had tried for years to keep herself off of insulin, but now she was being forced to take it. That same day she gave up sugar and vowed to eat more healthily. As of Wednesday, 8/21/13, she has lost 50lbs and is still going. She only recently added in exercise, too. She just started making healthier decisions. That's it. I asked her what, besides the insulin, brought about the change and she told me if she continued on the way she was, she wouldn't be around to see her grandchildren (which do not exist yet, and have no immediate plans of coming into existence) grow up. (as a side benny of my mom eating better, so has my dad and he's lost 37 pounds)
So no more diet fads, no more starving, no more unrealistic expectations. Just healthy decisions. Could it really be that simple?
