This Earth is NOT a Trash Can!

Sunday, August 25, 2013

Why do people think that it is okay to drop theirMcDonald's Happy Meals, Dunkin Donut's Coffees and Bud Lights on the side of a dirt road or on a hiking trail? Is it because no one is looking, and they can get away with it?

Listen to me, this earth is not your trash can! Pick up your trash!

New Hampshire, along with Ohio, Michigan, and others are "carry in, carry out" states. There are signs stating:

Thanks for helping keep our parks clean and green when you Carry In Carry Out!

There is nothing more frustrating for me than to pick up someone else's garbage. I do so because I love enjoying nature the way that it was meant to be. I often wonder if the same people who throw their trash to the side of the road or trail would do the same thing in their homes or on their own streets.

It may be easy to throw something out the window, and have it not clutter up a car, but littering is a disgusting habit to get into. Please take care of your trash!

Litter bug, litter bug, shame on you!

So true! Why can't people just carry an extra trash bag with them to collect trash and throw it in the right container.

i would be ok if litterbugs were forced to fo 100 hours of community service cleaning up the area they littered. we live by a busy road and people through junk in our yard often. i am waiting for someone to throw a wallet with cash but it has not happened yet.

Yes. It is so bad how people treat the earth. Hope you are well otherwise.

I share your anger on this. This topic gets me fired up.
Are people so lazy they can't be bothered to throw away their trash. I wonder if they would do the same thing in their own home?

It says the same thing in the state of New York for their trails.
It's very sad to see litter, I agree. Just can't understand why people do it. They go there to see the beauty of nature... but they clearly don't appreciate it enough if they're going to do that to it.

You can add Montana to that list, although our signs aren't that courteous.

Yesterday, I was totally grosses out by seeing next to my neighbour's curb a pile of cigarette buts. A visitor had clearly emptied out their ashtray onto the road between the car and the curb. I cannot fathom why someone would do this rather than just wait until they got home and disposed of it as they would ashtrays in their home. emoticon

Absolutely! I just don't understand how some people can be so thoughtless.

I'm always amazed when I see trash several miles in from a trailhead. Amazed that someone would be moved enough by the beauty to hike that far yet thoughtless enough to trash it.

I completely agree with you, I don't understand why when people go through drive through they can't keep their trash in their car till they are somewhere where they can dispose of it properly, I don't like seeing trash along our highways or side roads and in our parks. Another thing I detest is chewing gum that is spit out, have you every stepped in it and it's all gooey and stuck to the bottom of your shoe, yuck. We need to take care of our planet. Have a blessed Sunday.

I wholeheartedly agree!! I was driving on the highway once when the person in front of me threw a half full soda carton out the window and it landed on my windshield. The passenger at the same time threw out a fast food bag on the other side. Really?? What does it take to put a trash bag in your car and then throw it into a trash can WHERE IT BELONGS!!!

The Earth belongs to everyone and we should all be good stewards of it, even the complete idiot litterbugs!!!

Ah yes...nothing more aggravating! emoticon When I see someone throwing something out the car window onto the road...I want to pick it up...follow them home and dump it in their yard!

And...I'm sure these companies don't want their product advertised in this manner!

I live in a city and I've seen two sorts of behaviors. One is the behavior that is clearly ignorance; people used to think that putting trash in the storm drain was the right thing to do (almost like it was a trash can). But I've seen the one where the person looks around to make sure no one is watching and then drops the trash.

The second kind is really infuriating!

I can't stand it when people toss litter out of their car. Just drop it in the can next time you are near one. It's really not that hard.

I doubt those who litter even think about getting away with it - because they're NOT thinking.

    No it's not a trashcan! I couldn't agree more.

I hate litter and in turn I hate fast food and single serving packages of anything because that's typically what I find tossed on the ground around here.

Anytime a new fast food place opens in town within the week I start finding litter from it on the ground.

Shame on you litterbugs!

Someone shared with me in a bible study class is that this is the God's country and we should read it as such. Because of this, I, too pick up other's trash because, I live here, too! Home training starts at home. People normally do what they know, sadly. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
