Worse than labor?

Saturday, August 24, 2013

Well... that's how some people describe it.

I've been having back pain on and off for a few weeks/months. I tried EVERYTHING. Heating pad, ice, stretching, yoga, massages, went to the Dr, etc. You know I'm a doctor but I try not to be my OWN doctor lol... But anyway, I told him... my back hurts it feels like my kidney. This was several months ago. He said, no it's probably nothing.

Anyway, the pain has been very very bad over the past few days/weeks. I've been using a foam roller and nearly screaming like death whenever it rolled over my CVA (aka... kidney). Friday at work, I had enough and finally said that's it I'm going to the emergency room/urgent care... something!

I get there and they agree it sounds like my kidney. I get a CT scan a few hours later and a shot for pain... Today they tell me... "You have a stone in your ureter... it was a kidney stone."

So what do you know, I was right! And this kidney stone is NO fun. Its in the lower part of my ureter so it should pass sometime soon if it is going to pass.

Life has continued to be stressful for me. Yesterday... the same day I find out my kidney was probably the issue, I got my FIRST ticket ever! I had decided to take myself to the dollar movie to get my mind off the pain. I enjoyed the movie (Now you see me) and was happy that I had a few hours to be carefree. It was like 11 pm and I was headed back home to go back to sleep (I'd been sleeping all afternoon.)

All of a sudden, Blue lights, I pull over and think "what have I done?" The cop says "Is this your car?" I look VERY confused and say YES! (what is going on?) Turns out my tag expired at the end of July and due to residency being so hectic I did not remember to get it renewed. SMH. I asked him if I had broken some traffic law and that's why he pulled me over. He said, No. Just saw your tag.

Welp... and there you have it. Driving along minding my own business and had NO CLUE my tag was expired. So just another thing to add to my to do list. I was very frustrated and couldn't believe I had forgotten to renew my damn tags.

So, I'm pretty much stuck in the house all weekend until Monday when I can go to the DMV.

Just finished running 5+ miles.. at this rate I'm gonna be skinny sooner than I expected because all I can do is exercise for stress relief. (seriously... last time I lost weight I decided to run or exercise every time I got stressed and I really got down to like 140.)

Feel better, most courts will waive the ticket if you show proof that you got a new tag. You may pay very little but definitely not the cost of the citation. Oooo now I'm thinking that's why my side/back has been hurting for months and they keep telling me it's nothing. Hmmmm....

Thanks everyone! Jibbie I just moved to this state from a state where I always has 2 year tags so I wasn't intentionally not paying the registration I just didn't realize they were expiring. As far as the mail, if I had received a notice I would have paid it. :-). But anyway thanks for the advice!

If you have PAIN in your back, for a woman it can mean a HEART problem. Don't listen to a doctor who tells you IT IS NOTHING. Glad u DID find out it was your KIDNEY.

Police do automatic license plates check as they come up behind you, so that is how he got your on an expired plate. It is good to pay the license tag as soon as the notice comes in the mail, as it is easy to put back and forget as it takes time to get it sent back. I read that their are towing companies who drive around parking lots and look for expired plates on the 1st of the month, just so they can tow cars and get the fees, so you are lucky you didn't come out of the movie and find your car was GONE to an towing lot. Then you pay THEM for the tow and storage fee, plus the ticket as they notify the police.

Ouch, ouch, ouch! I'm an ER nurse, and we get a fair amount of patients passing stones. Since it's a VA hospital, we stick in an IV line and get baseline labs, start flooding them with IVF, give ketorolac IV, and get a CT scan. Send them home with good meds (vicodin or percocets) if they don't pass it in the ER.

Hope it passes soon!
