Hooked on the scale

I work out hard which makes me hungry. I ate 400 calories over my projected calories but healthy choices. I ate a granola bar, walnuts and cranrasins. I worked out doing 40 minutes of sparkpeople videos and then a 2 hour hike. I burned 1,200 calories the next day my weight is 1/2 pound up. Yikes! What is a girl to do? I know what I am to do..... only weigh once a week, dig out a favorite pair of tight jeans and use them as a goal, and take my measurements. But I have a love hate relationship with the scale. When I do workout hard should I eat more or stick to 1,500?
