Saturday morning musings

Saturday, August 24, 2013

Lord, do I love Saturday mornings! No rush, slow-sipping my coffee while watching Food Network. Getting ready to have breakfast with you-know-who at 10:00 (one full hour of Brunch at Bobby's!).

I know I've said this before, but today and tomorrow I'm getting a lot of work done. Today I'm removing the trash from my apartment and my car, as well as mopping the bare floors (luckily I have very little bare floor). Tomorrow is laundry day. I'm sick to death of hand-washing clothes for work. I just have to bite the bullet and get all six loads to the laundromat. I know I'm going to be next to dead when I get back, so I'll thaw a couple of chicken thighs and bake them with a potato for dinner. It doesn't get much more effortless than that.

Yesterday was the company picnic. We had it at lovely McNear's Beach in San Rafael, just north of San Francisco. I took a couple of pictures but sadly I don't have them to share. I gmail them from my phone to my AOL account, but it can take a couple of days to get here! At any rate, lunch was pulled-pork sandwiches from a local BBQ place. I have been seriously craving BBQ of late, so I got a delicious "fix." We also played a team building game. These are usually eye-rolling silly, but this time I actually got an eye-opener. We each put our names on a piece of paper and passed it around the table (six to eight at each table). Each person wrote what they like best about us. At the end we each had to read our favorite comment, prefacing it with "I am." Did you know I'm "very funny?" But the startling thing was that my boss (who probably doesn't think I know she wrote it) said I'm her friend! Wow...

The last half of this week the commute home is going to be a nightmare. One of the major traffic arteries, the Oakland Bay Bridge, will be closed from Wednesday through the day after Labor Day. It won't affect the morning commute too much (the East Bay folks will still be on the eastern side), but the nighttime commute will probably be hellish, not to mention that Friday is the Friday of a holiday weekend. My boss has agreed to let me start my shift an hour and a half earlier so I can leave early and (hopefully) beat the insanity. However, Friday is month-end so it remains to be seen how that will work out.

But once I survive all of that craziness I'll be outta there for NINE WHOLE DAYS! Nine days of knitting, Food Network and "judge TV," feet up -- I can't wait!

That all sounds lovely! Except for the traffic, of course. Hope it isn't as bad as it sounds like it could be.

I hear ya on handwashing clothes. I had to do that for 2 months when we moved to our new apartment. It is the pitts! Sometimes we just gotta do what we gotta do though.

Sounds like your vacation is going to be amazing!

I hate laundromats but am super grateful when I have a whole load of quilts or comforters to wash and dry - they are a blessing. Have a great rest of the weekend - I too love my Saturday mornings when I can sleep in.

Glad you had an enjoyable time at the picnic. They can be loads of fun and activities. Or they can be absolutely hell on wheels. At least it is time away from work. emoticon

When you go to the Laundromat remember that none of the people WANT to be there or they don't want to be social. emoticon

Have a good week and a half off. emoticon

Sounds like a good picnic all-in-all and a good Saturday! Watched Bobby too! Loved the egg strata and the mini apple dumplings. Looked delicious.

My Saturday is just the opposite--out to the gym firs tthing. But once I get home, I can relax for the rest of the day.

I have only had to use laundromats a few times and hated it every time. I love having my own machines. The only upside is being able to do it all at one time!!

here as well, though I think it was because it was thought that a tugboat or barge bumped into one of the bridges, so they were closing several to make sure they were all right.....but I don't get their thinking.....closing it on a Labor Day Weekend.....very poor planning, in my estimation......ahhh, well, they didn't ask me........*grin* :)

and have a fantastic weekend this weekend.:) emoticon

The exercise of writing comments about the othes in the group is very interesting, and while nice comments people made about you.

Weekend closings are happening in this part of the world, too. The Brooklyn Bridge and the GWB.

    Enjoy your vacation!
