FIL update...

Saturday, August 24, 2013

So my FIL is doing okay but we realized that lying completely flat wasn't a good thing. The doctor said he could be elevated up to 30% but that is hard with pillows as it's hard to get them under his shoulders and all. So we rented a hospital bed with an automatic button to lift him. I love it here as my husband and I made this decision around 2pm and went and talked to my friend that has the rental store and she and her men delivered it at 6pm and we got Dad moved over. We also bought one of those tables that rolls under his bed and got his computer hooked up so he will be able to use that and also watch DVD. I am going to take him some movies and also the series Orange is the new Black. He is complaining of being bored. But the biggest problem right now is that he is constipated. He admits that he feels some of that might be mental as he is coming to terms with having to do his "business" in a diaper. So I talked to him and the doctors and he is allowed to use a bed off I went to find him one of those and found one. Hopefully that will work out for him. Both of his doctors made a house call yesterday to check on him and his progress and were pleased accept for the constipation. But if that continues they have a "plan" for that as well. Not sure I want all the details on that. I know too much information. The good news is he continues to say how wonderful everyone is and that the nurses that have been caring for him are wonderful. Today he will have a male nurse.

So I am off to walk the dogs and then go check in on him and see what else can be done to make him comfortable.

I do hope all of you are doing well. I thank you so much for all your support, comments, thoughts and prayers. They do mean so very much to me.

I am holding my own at 106 even through the stresses of all this. I find that I am doing well with the stress. I am good with problem solving and have many friends and relationships here with the Mexican people who are so willing to help me find what I need. My DH was very nice yesterday and hugged me and thanked me and told me he could not have done this without me. That was nice. Now if I can just get him to like living here and not wanting to move to Florida that would be good! ; )

I do hope you all have a terrific Saturday. Remember you can choose to make it a great day with good decisions!

Sure hope that your FIL's recovery continues to go well. Hopefully, being able to use his computer and watch movies will help pass the time and keep him from getting so bored.

Wonderful that your FIL has such good nurses, doctors, and caregivers and that he has you in his life.

Wonderful news that you are maintaining your weight with everything that has been going on lately.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

You're doing beautifully, Sallie - all that special care and attention are doing you a great deal of good, as I'm sure you're experiencing. And you take such closely attentive, concerned care for your FIL, too emoticon ... Healing thoughts to him today as he continues his recuperation. It must be so difficult for a man his age..

Not sure why DH would want to move after seeing the medical care his dad is getting in Mexico. emoticon

Good to hear that the doctors are pleased with his progress. It is hard to lie down straight all the time. It was a good thing that you could get what you needed for him.
I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Have a good weekend!

Glad your FIL is doing so well and that you've been able to help him solve some of his problems with boredom. I have a SIL who took a fall and now is in the hospital with bleeding near her brain - the reason I mention it is that she has been having similar issues with bathroom. Something for us all to think about. My heart goes out to your FIL and my SIL as I can't imagine how difficult that must be, giving up the ultimate and most basic of bodily control.

How great that through all this you haven't gained weight. Have a great weekend!

The elevated bed and tray should help him a lot. As you mentioned a good attitude makes all the difference in the healing process. Great you are able to get whatever he needs to make him comfortable.

Glad you are handling the stress so well. emoticon

Glad he's in good spirits, being bed-bound does effect the digestive system and I sympathize with your FIL- not very dignified for him.
Good to know you have a good support network where you are Sallie, hope it gets easier for you all hereon in

Not moving much and, especially pin pills will cause constipation. He needs to drink plenty of added fiber to keep things moving.
He is so lucky to have you all to care for him.
