What a difference 5 years makes

Only on Sparkpeople would I post a picture of me in a swim suit. I just got back from Galveston, TX for 5 days of beach fun. My sister and I go every year for our "Sister Trip". What I learned about myself and how far I have come since joining Sparkpeople is amazing. I want to tell you to never give up. Change takes time. You didn't get the way you are over night or even in a year. Keep working and you can change too. Here are some highlights of how I have changed. Keep in mind that these were not things I had to really fight myself on as I would have in the past.

1. First night we go have Mexican Food. I ate it all. The next morning I was still feeling full so I didn't have breakfast. In the past I would have had breakfast anyway because it was a meal time and I love to eat.

2. We go buy groceries when we get there so that we have beach food, drinks, etc. I did not buy anything unhealthy. One evening I had carrot chips and Hummas with fruit.

3. (here is the big one) Thursday night we had seafood at Fisherman's Wharf. I chose to have fried fish fillets, stuffed shrimp and fries. (I had been good all week and we only do this once a year). When I got through my first piece of the two fish fillets and one of the stuffed shrimp I was already feeling full. You know that feeling of your stomach throbbing? What was on my plate was still one whole fish fillet, one stuffed shrimp ( I opted to eat that shrimp) and most of the fries. DRUM ROLL PLEASE !!! I did not get a "to go" box and I let the waitress take my unfinished plate to the trash !!!!!

My point of this blog is that I have spent the past five years "practicing" my new eating habits and as time goes on I'm getting better at it. My thoughts about food are changing and I expect to continue to change.

I thank God in heaven for helping me on this journey. He has helped me to look and think about food in a different way.
