Dd is not feeling well, so we are home a little earlier in the day than usual from vacation. We had a wonderful time and now we are back on hi speed internet instead of hunkered over our laptop on the loveseat in the office at Brentwood lodging or on one of those ridiculous bar stools in McDonalds for free wifi..
We had wonderful adventures, some hair raising, but I always provide those for DD. We were challenged by my dear friend Saralee, to detour off my carefully planned cooking schedule and try some restaurants to eat in,, different types.
We sure did. I reserve a cabin so we can save $$ by doing our own cooking, most of the time. The cabin costs more than a motel room, but is more spacious and has a full kitchen. We DID save a lot of $$, but I took up the challenge.
We ate at a place in Paradise,Mi called Browns fish house..I believe I blogged it, but basically, they go out in Lake Superior in the dark of the morning, catch fish, come back and clean them cook them and when the fish are gone, they lock the doors. IF there is any fish left at the end of the day, they never serve it as fresh the next day:they smoke it and make dip out of it or they sell it smoked. If they do not catch any fish, they stay closed!
We ate there.. very nice..
One day we went to Sault Ste. Marie,MI to see the Soo locks and visit with a friend. We ate at Frank's Place, a locals place with homemade everything.. Very good perch dinner there.
Wednesday we ate at Wilson's Rivers Edge restaurant in Indian River for dinner. I had the Tire Fire dinner: chuck tenderloins on a bed of REAL mashed potatoes, onion strings, wax beans, full salad bar. DD had a chicken fried steak with the same works, the steak was as big as a salad plate. We took doggie bags and passed up the homemade pies.
Last night we went there again for dinner: DD and I had the same thing:Black ANgus cubed steaks with the same works. Doggie bag time, BUT we figured in dessert this time because they had raspberry pie. They cut a huge pie in quarters and one quarter is your serving!!!!! DD had chocolate cream pie. The crust on these pies tastes like a snickerdoodle without the cinnamon! The mom of one of the waitresses's makes them.
Huge!! Kristy's crust was about four inches high in the back!!
We had been walking in Petoskey,MI for hours before that, plus the time we spent walking up and down the hills there to find my car!! Talk about cardio!! At least an hour just to find that car!!!
This morning , on our way home, we stopped in Gaylord,MI to eat breakfast at the Sugar Bowl. Very nice.. all of these places can be seen on the web. I plan on adding them all to my TripAdvisor ratings..
No extra stops on return home trip,,DD did not fell well.. so we were home around lunchtime..
My car was so filthy from parking in the forest, I got the power washer out after we unpacked the car, washed both our cars!!
We are eating our doggie bag leftovers for dinner..
We had another bonfire last night, next to the deck in the house we were staying in.. discussing next year's options. We will definitely be back in Indian River,, may be changing venue for Upper Peninsula though..
