What an interesting day....

Thursday, August 22, 2013

So I don't work Thursdays and Fridays, work cut backs and I'm not complaining. I'm thinking this might come across pretty broken up, but here goes....

What a beautiful day in the neighborhood, I wasn't planning on running today simply because I'm doing a half on Saturday and thought I should cut back, so a walk was in order - not sure how far I'd go, maybe 6 miles.... boy that would take a looooong time... so I looked at the training schedule I printed out 12 weeks ago to get ready for the half, oh shoot 3 miles yesterday (and I didn't run yesterday, very hot and humid here)... okay I'll do 3 miles (I haven't followed the schedule at all, but what the heck). Went for 3 easy miles, well it felt so good that I did 5 miles emoticon.

Earlier this week at work I met a person .... backstory to this is I work in a grocery store that has a little postoffice contract unit and I'm in charge on it, so this person was mailing a package - I like to make small talk when the person seems nice, etc... so he's mailing a package from Mill City Running (I've never heard of it, but Mill City is in Minneapolis - I'm in St Paul)... being the "runner" I ask a few questions, say I've gone to Beyond Running, no wait that's in Fargo - have to look at my socks and say I shop at the Running Room... He politely said don't shop at the "big box" stores, shop local - he and his wife just opened Mill City Running - yes in Minneapolis, but he had worked at Run~N~Fun just down the street and I should visit them (or his store) sometime....

Today decided I would check out Run~N~Fun... it's just like going to work, only when I have time.... looking for compression socks and mole skin and whatever....

Got up there, very nice people, told them what I needed - had got the start of a blister on my run this morning - they opened a product, to let me try it... told them I thought I needed compression socks because my knees had been hurting, and I just bought new shoes (Nike Free Flyknits - which I was planning on wearing on Saturday) - O my I should just wear my 14 month old addias - that's how good they though the Nikes were for long distance - for my 5 milers - so-so!
They put me in some Soucany neutral shoes - saying they probably would work this weekend.
So I'm gonna try them this weekend (they really wished I could put at least 6 miles on them before I run... ) All in all I bought the shoes, a blister kit, a Nike hat and a Nike shirt and it cost me less than the shoes.... so I said "did you get everything?" they said "since Jeff referred you, we gave you a discount!" OMG - I've never had that happen before!!

Later in the afternoon I went and had a massage - hoping to loosen my muscles alittle....

I'll let everyone know how I do on Monday.... Later... Patty

    Aww...
I think Mill City helped sponsor Glen Perkin's charity 5K last weekend - so they seem to be active in the community, too.
Good luck on Saturday!

It always a good thing to support your local vendor (and the perks can be quite nice, too!) Looking forward to your race blog, I am sure you will do terrific!
