New Focus

Thursday, August 22, 2013

First I want to thank the encouragement I received from my Spark friends on my previous blog.
I did a lot of soul searching and thinking over the past 24 hours.
Question: What do I want? to be healthy and have my diabetes under control; to be around to see my grandchildren grow up.
Okay, nowhere did I think of weight loss in that answer. That is secondary to me right now. So my plan is:
1) eat enough to have my after meal blood sugars where my doctor wants them, between 130 to 140; which is higher than I am used to before starting insulin. have to rethink that number. I am used to 80 to 100 before needing insulin.
2) go to water aerobics three times a week at the gym
3) do yoga on my wii three times a week for at least 30 minutes each time

I am going to reset my weight tracker. I will only weigh in once a month. This means I will leave a challenge team, but I need to refocus myself and I can't focus on weight right now.

I think you've got a wise plan. You're right, your health is the most important thing. The way I look at it SP advocates a healthy lifestyle, not just weight loss.

I have been Sparking for 5.5 years. While I may not have met my goals, I have improved my health, lost some weight and motivated others to do the same. Looked at what you have already accomplished!

Sounds like a good plan; you can't go wrong focusing on your health. That's where I started, then as the weight started coming off I had only one weight loss goal, to weigh less at the first of the month than I did the month before. Any fraction of a pound was a victory. I reached goal by averaging a loss of 1-2 pounds a month while making changes in my lifestyle. That was almost 8 years ago now. You can do this, no hurry. Be well.

Sounds good. I think if you get the rest worked out, the weight will follow. Track, track, track!! That's the crux of the situation. You need to do what's is best for you. The challenges are fun, but if that's not the right thing right now, they'll be here later if you want to start it again! That's the beauty of SP!! Keep us informed so we can help and encourage you as you know it's the best way to go. Every once in a while, somebody will say just the right thing at just the right time to ring a bell for you and you'll be renewed!!
Glad you're going to stick! You can do this! Get yourself in a good place with your blood sugars and build a healthy routine .
Hope you are having a sense of clarity and a beautiful day!! (((HUGS)))
