We've had a lovely day today. We visited the site of an old Roman town, in some ways not much to see, but quiet and peaceful and a chance for us all to enjoy nature.
We walked half way around the perimeter and then back across the middle. It was a distance of about 4 miles. We took our time, and 6 year old grandson didn't complain once
They are inspecting a piece of Roman wall. Not much to see at that point, but that made it easier to talk about the construction and to inspect the cement! Fancy that - cement that is almost 1700 years old
We also went to the village church. It dates from the 1200s, and is beautiful. This is just part of the interior - the decoration is ancient.
If you are interested you can read more about the church here southernlife.org.uk/silc
The Roman site is called Silchester and there is quite a lot about that on the web.
However, the day was marred. By late afternoon I felt really poorly. I just wanted to pass out. I checked my blood pressure and it was 87/47, a little lower than I would have wanted. I really can't face anything to eat, but I think I'll try and find something light and nourishing then - I'm going to lie down. That is really unusual for me, so you can tell that as far as today is concerned - I'm giving up.
Forgive me if I don't check out all your blogs today. Must be on form tomorrow - grandson and grand-daughter! Onwards and Upwards.
