OMG FIGS

Wednesday, August 21, 2013

Is what I say at the grocery store, usually when there are FIGS.

FIGS!!!!!!!!

Do you guys know about figs?

What you need to know is: OMG EAT THEM.

Yeah. So I was really hungry when I went grocery shopping last night. The good news is, most of the stuff that went in the cart Because OMG DELICIOUS was pretty healthy. I bought two lists of stuff:

1) planned stuff:
Chicken, yogurt, sweet potatoes, celery and onion for chicken salad, raw veggies for snacking, stuff for turkey burgers for dinner, stuff for chicken sausage with peppers & onions for dinner.

2) OMG IMPULSE BUY!
FIGS. Though technically that is not an "impulse buy," that's a rare-item-buy it-when-you-see-it buy. A cantaloupe. Apples! JERSEY TOMATOES OM NOM NOM NOM. Extra dark chocolate, to be enjoyed one small square a time. Chocolate PB, to be eaten with the apples. Because my chocolate almond butter is almost gone. Vitatops - to replace the Thomas's corn muffin toaster things I originally picked up. Fancy cheddar, to eat a weeny 1 or 1/2 oz with fruit. Pasta - but I got a healthy marinara & lean grass fed bison instead of beef to make the sauce. OH and spinach/kale mix to saute.

Yes, kale = impulse buy. I'm a freak, is how.

I mean, really... that's not bad! I wasn't like HEY ICE CREAM, OH LOOK COOKIES. I was like MAN, I NEED SOME FREAKING FIGS. I even did the math (MATH!!) to see if I could have my yogurt + a vitatop with a little butter instead of yogurt + sweet potato and be in the same calorie range. YUP. DONE. LOVE IT.

So yeah. It's going well.

My last few days look great. I actually tracked all 3 meals plus my snack for today? LAST NIGHT, based on the stuff I bought. Hahaha. I wanted to know which treats I could eat!

I came in right at the bottom of my calorie range yesterday, though protein was low. Today is looking awesome I'll just stick with my already tracked food plan.

WOOT!

Now I just need to do this for like 365 more days... emoticon

OMG, YES FIGS!!! I tried fresh figs for the first time this year. I have only seen them one other time at the market, but I didn't buy them then.

I decided to try them this year, I'm being adventurous these days. I LOVED them. Sweet and delicious. I'll never pass them up again.

    You go girl.

I was recently introduced to fresh figs by a friend. Before that, I'd only ever had them in something like a fig bar etc.

I was hesitant. They look gross. And mushy. And like they're filled with fish eggs or something.

But they tasted awesome! I"m not sure I'd run out and buy them though.

Also - now that you've done all that shopping, please prepare the meals and send them my way. :)
