So, I've been thinking....aka another crazy idea

Wednesday, August 21, 2013

I read an article in one of the magazines that show up at the park dist gym about these 2 ladies that decided (separately) that for their 30th birthday, they were going to run 30 races that year....

I'm turning 40 in Sept. I'm sure you can see where this is headed.

It started my thoughts down that path of could I DO 40 races between my 40th birthday and my 41st? That's a little under 1 race a week. When I sat down and thought about it, truly broke it down, was it an attainable goal? Considering kids, and my work schedule, I thought not. BUT what if I cut it in half? Is 20 races in a year (no matter what distance) do-able? That I believe I can accomplish!

So, here it is: My goal, for my 40th year is to run 20 races. I'm already registered for 5, so I just need to find 15 more.

I see a bunch of 5K's in my future!

You can do it. I only race once a month to keep costs down. Check out coolrunning dot com for races in your area. They only link to registration sites that are on active dot com but you can always google the names of other races and that should get you to the registration site for the other races. You could also start a topic in a running group or local area forum in spark and I am sure people could suggest races for you. 5k registration fees run around 30 dollars per race so be prepared to spend about 600 dollars on entry fees.

The biggest challenge might just be finding the races to enter... I know it would be for me!

You can do it!!! Make sure you save your receipts though! The "charity" runs can be written off as donations. At an average of $25 a pop, 20 races will set you back $500!
