Day out

Wednesday, August 21, 2013

Yesterday morning DH decided to make a run to Trader Joes to stock up on some goodies. Now we live in SW Colorado and the nearest TJ is either in Albuquerque or Santa Fe - both require an almost 4 hour drive to get there.. In the old day when we lived in Pagosa we used to make a trip to Santa Fe regularly - there and back in one day, plenty of time for shopping and of course lunch - DH doesn't go anywhere without having to eat!
We decided on Santa Fe, so we could go through Pagosa and get my new thyroid meds on the way. Also the drive to Santa Fe is so much prettier than going to Albuquerque.
By the time we got to Santa Fe is was close to 1pm, so naturally first order of business was finding the Trader Joes and then find some lunch nearly before going shopping.
DH is very kind and decided to skip the subway as I don't eat bread and he shouldn't either... he spots a sign "cafe" and a parking lot so he pulls in - it turned out to be a yoga studio with spa and a cafe. Oh well - looks like a healthy place to eat :)

There was eating outside but we decided to go inside as it looked like it was going to rain (and it did!)

We had a delicious lunch! I had the lambburger with a gluten free bun and curried roasted potatoes. I did leave most of the bun, I have discovered that I don't really like bread anymore... DH had a slice of quiche with salad and a side of the potatoes. For afters we shared (ok I had 1/3 of it) a flourless chocolate torte which was out of this world!!

At the Trader Joe's we found everything on our list and then some (talk about blowing the household budget!) We are all stocked up on dark chocolate again - DH was afraid of running out LOL I also found golden flax seed, so I am going to make a batch of flax granola with that and then mix it with my batch made with dark flax seeds.
We were out of there at 2:30 and it was raining, so we decided to head home, there wasn't really any other shopping we needed even if it had been fun to browse coming all that way... We headed home and arrive int he middle of a massive thunderstorm - we need the rain but couldn't it have held up for 10 minutes so we could have made it inside dry??

Have you ever tried Taro? They should have that in Mexico, I think.

4 hrs to TJ and back? Can't you mail order the stuff? Maybe you're so remote that no package delivery is available. emoticon

My parents and grandparents are taking a weekend trip to Santa Fe on Friday. I never realized you were that close to there. I always learn something new, lol.

I didn't know you were that close to Albuquerque, I love that place. My mom lived there for years. Your food sounds so delicious. How did you give up the bread, I've wanted to ever since I read wheat bellly but just can't seem to get started. I wish i had a gradual guide...

That was quite a long drive to go to Trader Joes but it sounded like it was a nice drive and you got to spend some quality time with your husband. The lunch sounded wonderful and the dessert looks really yummy. Glad you were able to enjoy your day.

wow, that is a lot of driving to go to TJ. Not sure I would be up for it, but the lunch sounded wonderful and that flourless cake looks awesome! Yummy!
We were on the road a lot today again as it take 1.5 hours to GDL and another 1.5 home.
my FIL seemed like he was doing well and we met with the doctor and the news is better than we first thought. So we are happier tonight.
My 25th anniversary meal was a can of tuna in the car. LOL...but you do what you have to when you have to...had to eat to take pills.
DH and I will celebrate another time.
Have a good evening.
