A Little Patience is Paying Off

Wednesday, August 21, 2013

Good day : good run, good housekeeping, and good eating.

Glad I didn't let the scale discourage me like I have so many times in the past. Yesterday I was only down .2 pounds from vacation (after a very healthy low sodium eating day when I thought I should be down more) and I could have gotten discouraged. But today it was much more than that. Didn't quite get to a middle two, but almost (130.0) as of this morning.

I changed my ticker here on SparkPeople to reflect a maintenance weight of 129 instead of 126. Somehow I was just too happy to have "over 4.0" on my ticker, when I am feeling that I am almost there. I changed the icon to a dove rather than the exuberant looking person, since I am still 1.0 pound over my compromise goal and I'm in the process of making peace with my final goal weight. I am still celebrating 4+ years of 80+ pound weight loss maintenance. I may later try to get down to 126, but for now I'll be happy with a middle two and plenty of energy for running and life!!

Today is a cross-training day. I did two SportsSkool sessions from the cable TV, one pilates and one cardio. Neither one was my favorite, but it is good to try new things.

I also went back to the grocery store and got all the rest of the items and ingredients I need for my week's menu plan. Although it was far more expensive to shop that way, I think I'll have a lot of things left over for next week and it won't work out too bad.

I talked to granddaughter Natalie on the phone last night. Sounds like the visit from the Tooth Fairy was very exciting and that first grade is off to a great start. Tomorrow morning her daddy will be back to work and I'll be taking her to and picking her up from school. I'll have Gwen all day, and unless something unexpected comes up, I'll take Gwen with me to the Y so she can play with other kids while I run.

All in all, things are good here!! Hope your day is going well, too!

You are such an inspiration to me. I did take your advice and asserted patience with the scale. After at least three weeks of bouncing between 236 and 237, I finally hit 235 and the next day 234. Who would have thought!

You have a lovely life, Marsha. May that dove and the "making peace" keep you home on the weight range. Sometimes that scale just doesn't seem to give us the results we think it should, does it?

I've been super active, eating at my maintenance range... and it isn't giving up the pounds like it did last year in running season. HOWEVER, and this is huge, even though the scale seems to have settled with 125 as center instead of 122... the waist measure is the same as last year... the pants are fitting again the way they did a year ago... so I have to say at least SOME of those few pounds have to be muscle, right?

Making peace with the body's "natural" weight, not trying to force it. That's my theme right now. Not to "let it slide" but to be content when I know my behavior is solid.

Spark on, my friend!

My maintenance weight has been creeping upward and it's time to get back to weight loss mode! You are doing so well with your running and exercise - something I struggle with and need to talk myself into. Maybe when I'm retired and have more time I'll enjoy it more when it's not just something I have to try to fit into the schedule! You are doing well -- Keep it up!

emoticon I am in the same maintenance range and weigh about the same now. My past weight goal was 125 but I am happy now with a middle 2, like you.

Weight went up a bit in the summer but on track to get it back down. emoticon

I love the idea of the dove indicating you are at "peace" with your weight. Geez, how many decades does THAT take us???

Watermellen via Judith Beck talks about the "lowest achievable weight" vs. the "lowest SUSTAINABLE weight." Maybe 126 is the lowest achievable vs. 129 being the lowest sustainable? At any rate, 3 pounds is so miniscule, that you must be happy happy happy with either one!

Good job!!!
