Visually Inspired

Wednesday, August 21, 2013

So I find it very frustrating to come across these "motivational" stories and the individual has supposedly lost 50-100+ pounds but when I go through their photos there are only pics of when they started or from where they are currently, instead of both before and afters. I know we are all different on our view of things but I myself am a visual learner and have found that it also inspires me to see how far someone has come that is around the same weight as me, but it's not enough to just read about it, I have to see the progress they've made. I think this comes from all the false advertising and just straight up lies that people tell in order to get attention or try and sell you an idea...I know that most people, if any, on this site are not trying to sell us anything and I am also aware that a lot of us are probably very uncomfortable with pics of our heaviest weight, after all the truth does hurt. But I have found that the truth has helped to motivate me more, I absolutely hate where I have gotten through mindless eating and lack of exercise which is why I've joined this site and posted pics that I dread, because if those pics are good for nothing else, they are good in helping to motivate me and by showing them to others it only helps to push me in staying on this track to a healthier lifestyle. I do plan on posting a pic, with similar shots of my beginning weight profile images, for every 25 pounds gone emoticon and I really do hope that those images only help to motivate others that find themselves in the same situation that I am currently.

I hear you! I had my hubby take some extremely unflattering photos the first day of my new lifestyle so that I could continuously see how far I had come and where I refuse to be again. I plan to take a new photo for every 10% lost....next one coming up in 13 lbs. Brace yourself...haha. Hope you're doing great, chica. :)

I absolutely agree Penny... I think that not only are the before, during, and after photos a good motivation to getting there but a great motivation to maintaining what we've worked so hard for because we can look back at what we busted butt to get away from emoticon . I know that it is hard to post pics of the way we look starting or beginning because as I said, I did not want to post mine either...but it seemed that every time I'd try to lose weight without putting myself out there I would eventually fall back into bad habits and knowing that I, myself, am the type of person who hates to go back on something that I've committed myself to, I figured that by posting my pics would only keep me more committed to sticking this out which is truly for the better for myself and my kids. Would love to see some before, during, and after's of all my spark friends...only makes success that much sweeter! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Ha, I avoided the camera like the plague when I was heavy!!! There are VERY FEW pictures of me when I was 220+lbs (Though I DO have one in my photos on Spark. ONLY REASON i stood for that picture was my long time friend I don't get to see often was in town, and so I posed for a pic with her. The pic scanned with it was around 185lbs I think, or roughly the half-way point)

Now, I don't mind pics, I just don't POST them much. But there are some on my page at my current weight. i too am a very visual person. I LOVE seeing before, progress, and after pics!

I am the same way. I guess we live in a very skeptical world and have to have that visual. I was very hesitant to post my before pics. However, I did it because I wanted that visual image to compare to. It is an old pic now but is still accurate.

Good luck on your journey and I look forward to seeing your success pics!

I never really give it much thought. I don't even have a before picture I don't think because I was too ashamed to have my photo taken. I will look and see if I do. Then I will try to get up the courage to post it!

I agree. I also like to see people's photos on their way down. I am one who never liked to post pics, but decided to go ahead and do it after one of my spark friends asked me to do that so they could follow along on the progress. I think it can be a motivational tool both for ourselves and others.

Brave girl! Don't know that I could share fat pics with skinny ones too probably because the skinny ones are from years ago LOL Visualizations help me too. Thanks for putting this out there for consideration.
