Seriously? What the flippity freak? Fraud!

Tuesday, August 20, 2013

I stopped by the gas station on my way to Subway on my lunch break to throw a few dollars in my gas tank. My card was denied at the pumps several times, so I went inside and it was declined again.

I called the bank just to verify my balance, because when I left the house I had plenty of money in there. (I check my account every day) It came back with

"You total available balance is -$695.53"

I about died! I hit 0 to be connected to customer service to find out why my account is almost $700 negative!

When the rep came on the line, she started going over the charges with me, and I didn't make any of them! My account was hijacked! All total, before they were able to block the card, there was almost $700 charged - after they blocked the card, I got more emails alerting me to more fraud! All total, someone tried to charge over $2000 to my bank account.

Lucky my bank is being really good about it, and are making things right. Also lucky for me I have a stash of cash since my bank account is pretty much frozen.

In other news... I got home last night and there was a note on the inside door - "Leave the door unlocked - Buck and crew are coming to do the well"
I was woken up this morning to a construction crew jack hammering the concrete floor in the garage under my house. That was at 7:30 - I went to bed around 6:30. Lucky for me, I found a pair of ear plugs and went back to bed. I was able to sleep a few more hours.

I think that is all for now

I had that happen a couple of years ago. I was traveling to Southern California and used my credit card at a truck stop. Someone hijacked my number. Bank called me when they tried to charge $4,000 in designer jeans emoticon

I HATE it when jerks (aka %^$$#^*s) don't live by the same 'rules and standards' as basic common courtesy!

had that happen to us .... bunch of less than $50 charges ... so we changed our alert minimum from $50 and above to ZERO cents and above.... notifications of all transactions now come to us immediately .... our credit union had all our funds back to our account in a couple of days .... those creeps out there know all the tricks ... hope all works out well for you.

Glad you have a great bank and that you got some sleep.

Hope you get it all sorted out soon. We've had two attempts on one of my bank accounts. Luckily, the bank didn't let it go through and called me to make sure it was me. They were able to immediately freeze the card and issue me a new one. It's a scary thing to happen. Good thing you had some cash while it gets sorted out.
