What do the two have in common? A lot. Let's face it, if you are bedridden and on oxygen and the King of your country, in this case Saudi Arabia, has to send in helicopters and cranes to get you to hospital, who is at fault? Somebody is shopping for this person and providing them with food. And that somebody has been doing it for a long time in this 17-18 year olds life. You don't get to 1,345 lb in one year.
The same with children, unless they have a medical condition causing their obesity.. it is YOUR fault as their parent. I know my daughter was a very healthy weight until she was 10 years old and had her appendix out.. she went to my Mothers for recovery and the rest is history. She became a fat child. Yes it was my Mothers fault.. but it was also mine.
It was mine because I couldn't control my own eating and weight, it was my fault because of the unhealthy habits I taught her and the fact that I did not do enough to encourage healthy eating and exercise. There was a period when her weight was pretty good.. and then she got pregnant at 18 and it was all downhill from there. You can say it was her choice then if you want.. I say unhealthy habits were ingrained. I watch her struggle and I HATE it.
I see relatives with fat kids and they are fat themselves. They have no concept of healthy eating, in fact I know some of them drink sugared soda like I now drink water. They cook mountains of food and these children pile their plates high with no clue of the calorie or nutritional value. There are half hearted attempts to change if at all and their kids are as enormous as they are.
I see fat kids out on the street and I feel so enormously sad for them.. because I WAS that fat kid myself.. who grew into a fat miserable adult with a life long weight problem. People used to say it was puppy fat and I would grow out of it.. I never did.
If you have a fat child.. please.. do something. Stock your home with healthy food, teach new habits.. don't take any notice of whining and moaning, I don't care if they hate you. Take them out running, join a gym with them, find out what things they would love to do if fat didn't hold them back and plan to DO them.
For me.. that is the most valuable thing my parents could ever have done for me.
