Deliberately Going Off Routine

Not even a week in, and I'm already breaking the routine? Yep. I'm glad I did it, too.

Yesterday, we'd gone to a newly remodeled Starbucks when we were in Columbia, just because we don't go very often. A terribly disappointing experience. No longer is this a coffee shop for sitting, reading, knitting, conversing. It's now designed for efficiency, from the wide-open area at the entrance (to move foot traffic in and out quickly) to the counter against the windows and the jam-crammed tables just perfect for parking your butt and tuning in to nothing but your own private screen in front of you. Well, I'm sure Starbucks doesn't give a rip, but they've lost a customer. I might go through the drive-up after my monthly massage to buy something to drink on the way home, but I will NEVER darken their doorway again. And I'm sad, because I've spent many happy hours at a Starbucks in San Francisco, Southern California, and Columbia, MO. My (now deceased) Mom used to LOVE going to one as part of one of our bi-weekly Girls' Day Out; oh the memories! But technology has taken over what was once a relaxing treat time for me.

BUT....We have a new local coffee shop in downtown Fulton. So even without a car all week, Paul and I have decided that we will ONLY support this local business, not the well-known chain.

So, we walked Erik to school together, and then hoofed it downtown. A delightful cup of coffee, each. Conversation and a bit of knitting. Then a nice walk home to hang the laundry that was ready to dry. I just might have to build that into the routine once or twice a week now!

    Life is always changing isn't it! OH well, I think you're right . . . Starbucks probably doesn't give a rip roar! But glad you have an alternative that is local.

    Well, isn't that wonderful! I believe in supporting local business too and now you get your exercise in too! emoticon I don' drink coffee myself but if it was me, I wouldn't go there anymore. So many businesses grow because of their customers whom they later forget about as they "expand". I hope your week continues to be this excellent. emoticon
