Internal dialogues

Monday, August 19, 2013

I come from a long line of people who sell themselves short, put themselves down, and generally have lower self-esteem than perhaps they should. Therefore, it isn't a total surprise that I have an internal dialogue that isn't the most kind.

I am trying to notice when I do that and evaluate if the tongue lashing I doled out to myself is warranted. There are times it is in my opinion. More often than not, however, it probably isn't.

This is a good reminder to all of us. I am trying to train myself to talk to myself internally in the same manner as I do to my friends. I don't tongue lash them or berate them if they screw up; I am supportive and analytic (i.e., how could you do that better in the future? Was any part of it preventable?)

This is probably the single most helpful activity we can do!!!!!

Cheers to a great day!
