I woke up this morning and had my breakfast and shower and got ready for church. I had heard that was going to be another hot day, so I contemplated wearing a long dress to church as I thought it would be cooler. Am I ever happy I changed my mind. When I went to leave for church I noticed it was raining a little so I went back for a sweater and then headed off to catch the bus. By the time I got to the bus stop it was pouring. The bus generally waits for a few minutes before he leaves, as my stop is at the end of the line. When he saw me waiting there he quickly opened the door and let me on. I had to transfer to another bus, but I rode the first bus a little farther to where there was a shelter so that I didn't have to wait in the rain. By that time it was pouring cats and dogs. You could hardly see the road ahead. I knew I had to walk about 10 minutes from the bus stop to church, so I knew I would be quite wet by the time I got there.
By the time I got off the second bus, it was not only pouring cats and dogs, thundering and lightning, it was also hailing. I quickly got across the street and hid under the eaves of a building hoping the hail would stop quickly. A car pulled up and asked me if I would like a ride. A young couple with a baby had seen me get off the bus and waited for me. They didn't see where I had gone, but they drove back looking for me. They gave me a ride right up to my church door. By the time I got to church the water on the street was so high that one lady got water in her car when she opened her doors. The parking lot was filled with water, and our pastor put on a pair of shorts and went into the middle of the deep puddle and managed to get the drain unplugged. No one wanted to leave so many people stayed around until the rain slowed down a little. It was pretty chaotic for a while.
I was supposed to be greeting, which is why I didn't take the church bus this morning. However I was soaking wet right through, so the lady who was greeting with me just told me not to worry about it. I was still very wet by the time the church service was over, and a friend drove me home. I quickly changed to dryer, warmer clothes, and made myself some hot soup and hot coffee. I was supposed to meet some friends for coffee, but needless to say, I didn't go. We'll get together another day.
My friend and her daughter came by later and we worked on getting her scarves ready for her scarf parties. They had brought some packaged noodles and we had that for supper.
One of the churches in the area had a showing on the Arc of the Covenant, and we decided to go and see it. They had a temple set up (much smaller of course) as it would have been in the Old Testament times along with the Arc of the Covenant, and they had speakers talking about it and explaining what everything meant. They also gave us a booklet afterwards with all the information. We really enjoyed it. I have read those passages in the Bible many, many times, but I never understood a lot of it. I'm so happy we went.
All in all, it was an eventful day.
