Well, it just shows to go ya, adventures are everywhere!! Yesterday Dear daughter and I were headed down the road through the woods to the Oswalds Bear Ranch. I spied a teensy little white arrow sign indicating a lighthouse at this turn. I asked DD if she was up for an adventure.
Yes! I turn down this road and it turned out to be an eighteen mile trek on gravel road, which ultimately turned out to be a two-track dirt road that last seven miles. We ended up at a beautiful lighthouse, Crisp Point lighthouse on Lake Superior. We also climbed to the tip, yes, CLIMBED. The spiral stairway is so narrow that only children could walk up normally. The last eleven steps were three inches wide and we actually used each one as a handhold to reach the top! The view is breathtaking.
Was the drive through the old wildfire/logging road, worth it? You betcha!!
The bonus was that I spied some huckleberries growing on both sides of the road so we got out and started gathering. .. DD's picking invention worked great!
We then went to the bear ranch, got our picture taken with "Cindy" a seven month old cub, petting her and scratching her hears and under her arms the whole time, while Kristy fed her cereal from a spoon!
Today we slept in late, until seven AM, went to the Upper and Lower Taquamenon Falls. We met some nice people from all over, relaxed and enjoyed the serenity of the forest here.
In a couple hours we will start our bonfire and cook our dinner over it.
