Garden Doing Good Dispite Grasshoppers & Deer

Sunday, August 18, 2013

Today went out to the garden today. Got 4 more Yellow Squash, 3 dozen potatoes which were good size, 3.2oz-5oz. My green beans I got 4 of them before the grasshoppers & deer got to them. My zucchini is doing well. I have already gotten 5 from the garden. Nice that they are coming on slow so I don't have too many at a time.

It is so nice to eat from something you started from scratch. My corn is doing good also but don't think it will produce any corn. My Cantaloupe was coming up great & flowering and then the deer ate them all. Will try next year again.

I planted most from seeds I saved from the veggie itself. I started the plants indoors & then transferred outside.

Yellow Squash
zucchini
Green Onions
Green Beans
Potatoes
Cantaloupe
Corn
Peppers Red, Green, Yellow, Orange

Well that is about all on my garden.

Sounds like your garden is doing great. I have heard that you can drill holes in bars of Irish Spring soap and hang it around the perimeter of your garden to deter deer. I have not tried it myself. I love that you save seeds from your plants to grow others. I do that too.

Our cukes did not do well, but the zukes did OK. Tomatoes are not ripened here yet.
We did not do corn. Onions did well. Only got a few kohlrabi. Lettuce got overrun. Radishes were too close together. Carrots did not do well either. Sounds like you are doing well with your garden. I don't think we have ever had grasshopper trouble. The dogs are tied next to the garden so we usually don't have a deer problem. emoticon

Yes a fence would help for the deer. The grasshoppers is another story.

I miss the family veggie garden. Planning one next year if the Lord wills. Would a fence help with the deer???
