Found the second starting point, too... BUT...

Sunday, August 18, 2013

But I don't know if I actually worked out on the course, because they haven't posted maps yet. The thing about the trail head of the Homestead trail at Roca, Nebraska, is that it is NOT a starting point. It is two-directional. I chose to go South, but heading North toward Lincoln would also have been an option.

The reason I chose to go South is for one thing to see some different country, but for another because the trail changes names about five miles to the North, and becomes the Jamaica North trail.

I was out earlier this morning, starting my walk/run at 6:38 a.m. Runkeeper tells me I went 12.13 miles today, in 2 hours, 24 minutes and 47 seconds... for an average pace of 11:56. Pretty close to my target pace, "on average". Based on yesterday and today, I'm thinking that double half Mary is doable. The Bumble Bee mentality is setting in. Three weeks to go, then we do this for real.

However, gotta say... I sure hope they get the porta-johns set up before then! Think about your worst running nightmare... for me it involves biological needs! This morning I didn't even stretch on finishing... had to dash to someplace to take care of the more urgent requirements first! Yeah, TMI. You have imaginations.

I shall nonetheless, call this weekend's plan and execution a success. emoticon

Life is GOOD. Spark on. Take care of YOU, you're worth it.

emoticon yes, porta-johns are always important to me...well, I don't run, but I can tell you where every clean rest room is between my house and town.

You are doing a emoticon job...thanks for always letting me tag along with you. I can't run (knees) so I do enjoy second best seat!

You are doing great with your training! You are going to feel so comfortable during the actual race - no surprises! And, now you know you can do it without the port-a-ports although I am sure there will be a lot. I enjoy the water stops along the way - don't like being parched.

Good luck to you on your continued training and race!

Great job!!! I totally understand the "need to go." I drink 4 glasses of water in the morning so the first two hours at school is a lot of running to the restroom. Good thing I get to school 1 1/2 hours early!!

You will do emoticon on your run(s). You have a lot of people cheering for you!

emoticon Yep, that is why I wear Stretch Pants whenever I do a Race of ANY Length. By the end of it, I won't have TIME for Silly Things like Zippers and Snaps!!

emoticon Congratulations on a Successful Trial Run!!

Well, I can one up your TMI for out to my race, ditched the shoes to get ready for the swim, then realized I needed the Porta john....eek! Great job on your back to back runs this weekend, doesn't really matter if you chose the right path most likely, you logged your distance and you were happy with your results! Congrats!

Why why why can't there be a general international recognition that women require at least 5 x the number of facilities to men? (Reading the comment about the line up outside the ladies at a race . . . and remembering the line ups I've faced so many times at runs (when I ran) and at law school bar admission exams and at theatres and . . . grrrr.

Good planning today, however!

Very smart to check out the starting point. At least you have a 50-50 chance that you worked out on the course. The crucial thing is knowing where to line up. You've got this one!! Sounds like truly, Barb, you are well prepared for your double half mary. Such a cool challenge!!

I do know about those needs for bio-breaks. In fact, my 7.5 mile workout this morning was interrupted, but the alternative was not pretty. I agree with you that the worst running nightmare is not finishing last, it's not being able to take care of bio needs!!May that never happen to us. However, I have one friend who has run more than 20 full marathons and even more HM. The bio-nightmare only happened to her once and she survived. Guess I would, too.

Yikes! The lines for the ladies at yesterday's race were at least 20 minutes long before the race.
