Already planning ahead

Sunday, August 18, 2013

So with my diet restrictions I am already thinking about what I can pack to take with me for the long day on Tuesday. We have to have my FIL at the hospital at 11 am. He will then have tests and such but won't have his operation until like 4pm and then the operation will take like 4-5 hours. So he won't even come out of surgery until like 9pm. So I need to figure out what foods I can take to eat. I think I will take tuna fish and gluten free bread for lunch and yogurt and fruit with almonds for dinner. I can take a small cooler so the yogurt will be fine. I am sure there will be a place where my DH can get something but I don't want to risk it for me. So that is my new life. I constantly have to plan and think ahead so that I won't get caught off guard. But if it keeps me healthy, I am all for it. The effort it takes is for sure worth it.

I am praying that all goes well on Tuesday. My FIL has a positive attitude though and that is half the battle. I do hope he will be pain free when we get through this.

Today is a bright and sunny day here in Ajijic. Will walk the dogs and do an errand or two.

Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday.

Hope all goes well with your FIL and you are really smart to plan ahead and think of healthy ways to make sure you are not resorting to "whatever is available" which can be both expensive AND unhealthy.

Hope all goes well in and following your FIL's surgery! Postive attitude is a large part of winning, so he is approaching it well!

You've come such a long way, Sallie, from not knowing what was wrong to being able to plan a take-along meal!! When I read your plans to do this I simply grinned at the contrast of uncertainty natural a few months ago to your empowerment of knowing now that you 'only' have to plan! Like all change, it takes time, but somehow don't we each grow from these bizarre 'challenges' life plops as hurdles in our pathways?!?

Sorry to hear about your FIL. I just stumbled across this info yesterday in the Life Extension's book. For surgical preparation, they suggest (daily) before and after surgery:
Fish oil 1400 mg EPA, 1000 mg DHA
L-Arginine 2250-9000 mg
Glutamine 1-3000 mg
Vit C 2-3000 mg
Vit E (after surgery) 400 IU
Vit A 25K IU
Lipoic acid 3-600 mg
CoQ10 300 mg
Zinc 30 mg
Melatoin at bedtime up to 10 mg
Curcumin (Turmeric extract) 4-800 mg
Whey 17 g
RNA 500-2000 mg

AVOID Vit E and herbs that can cause bleeding like Ginkgo up to 14 days prior to surgery. Since I have most of these supplements, I'll be taking all these for my minor skin op (just because I'm so anal:) Also, I would take bromelain big time. They did a study on boxers and karate people and the healings were twice as fast as those taking placebo. So if you don't have any of these supplements, I'd give him Wob. Since Wob has bromelain anyway. Check with his doc if it's OK, then give him Wob on empty stomach a few times a day (5 to 10 each) should be good. He'll at least heal faster with the help of enzymes. Hope this helps. Sorry, I didn't know about this info sooner. Good luck.

Wishing all the best for your FIL! Instead of using excuses we couldn't find anything healthy to eat when we have things like this come up, planning ahead as you are doing would work for all of us to adhere to our healthy lifestyles and not worry about weight regain. You have to look after your needs, but by doing so you will keep on a even keel. Good for you!
