Trying to reach goal of 12 gym visits this month...

Sunday, August 18, 2013

I took DH to gym last night quite late and we didn't get home until 9:30. Watched the end of a Sherlock Holmes movie from the 1970s on public television. Didn't want to watch but had to see how it ended. LOL

So I was up past midnight and slept until 8:00 this morning.

I have made a promise to myself to start a daily walking program and plan to leave the house for a trip around the block for starters (it is 1/2 mile around). I know better than to try 3 miles right off the bat as I have set myself back doing that only 3 months after my second knee replacement.

This month I have tracked about 300 minutes of exercise, most of this is swimming but I plan to add the daily walking and knee exercises I am learning at PT. After about 10 sessions my knees are getting better and I need to spend about 1/2 hour per day reinforcing these exercises. I am up to 15 repetitions of each so I am making progress. Also at the gym I can use the leg press, but will not overdo as I did have a right quad tear 6 weeks after my second knee replacement and I am still working on desensitization of the scar tissue in both knees to help in getting off the floor. (Hopefully, I will not have any more falls, but I would like to be able to do some of the knee exercises on the floor as the PTist said if they are done on the floor they are more effective.

I try to go to the gym 3 times a week, more is good, but I have aerobics 2 times a week and zumba 1 time, and I really beat my self up when I have to miss, really love the zumba class, actually I so enjoy going, it is a big part of my socializing so important to me

Slow and steady progress is best they say. I hope that you continue on at that pace!
Keep at it, ok? emoticon
