The Ring Tailed Tooter

Saturday, August 17, 2013

Every family has its own ring tailed tooter, a child born wanting to swing from the chandeliers and climb the refrigerator, and my family is no exception.

Remember this cutie?:

He's almost a year old, and a month ago in a span of two weeks he managed to get his first tooth in, and then knock it out by holding onto and bouncing on the coffee table. Since then he has started walking.

Walking??!! Have mercy! He's absolutely fearless, and absolutely breathtaking to watch, careening about (usually) narrowly missing furniture hazards, and though we try to be proactive, he has managed some spectacular crashes, with the resulting bruises to show for it. The world is not always padded, and if you have ever watched a ring tailed tooter in action, you know how hard it is to protect these budding Evil Knievels.

Check out this black eye:

He blithely forges ahead, shaking off whatever injury he gets, just like another ring tailed tooter in the family used to...

His Daddy.

How neat. It reminds me of our kids, just learning to walk, managing to get up on and stand up of a counter! It's a neat (and stressful) age for the parent.

What a cutie! I had one like that - always into everything with the bumps and bruises to show for it. He's in the Army now...time flies!

I was on vacation last week and went to my friends in TN. She has a daughter that is 18 months old and goes non stop. It is amazing the energy she has and to see Mom chasing after her is a hoot at times. Her son is 17 and now with Esther she is running again.
