Still in there.

Saturday, August 17, 2013

Hi everyone. Sorry for the silence but life has thrown me another one of it's left hooks. On August 10th my father was brought from Florida to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland for a second opinion on some liver function tests. On the 11th he was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cirrhosis. Never a drinker, they suspect it's due to the fact that he's been a (not very careful IMHO) diabetic for 50 years.

On Monday he is seeing a specialist who has researched his condition and as he is too old for a transplant (80), hopefully can help with some of his symptoms. So the last week has been spent traveling back and forth between my home in PA and the hospital in MD and narry a workout until yesterday when I discovered I've had enough of LM Pump for now.

Really, with barbells the workouts are always just more of the same and I found myself craving more variety and the comfort of old friends so I popped in Cathe's Circuit Blast yesterday and it felt good to be home. This morning I did Cardio Supersets and it was just what I needed

Not to say that I"m never going to do Les Mills Pump again, just not as a program. I'll throw them into my rotations as an option.

So we are heading back down to Hopkins tomorrow evening and staying in Maryland until Tuesday so if I'm not on, you know why. I've not given up the fight, I'm just helping someone else with theirs. emoticon

Glad you were able to work in your workout - dealing with the medical problems of our aging parents can be time-consuming and challenging - especially so when they don't live close by. I like your approach to adding the workout into your "rotation" of options because it will probably make it more likely that you will take care of yourself a little more. You need to take care of YOU in order to be there for your father. (HUGS) and thoughts for both you and your dad as you both face the future with the challenges that face you.
