AKA- we're still going camping/backpacking this weekend.
Jimi already took off work for Saturday and Sunday, so we're going, despite the impending doom of a soggy weekend. We've pretty much mastered camping in the rain, but have yet to deal with rain while backpacking. I did a lot of research online on what gear we would need to at least be decently comfortable this weekend. Our plan is to buy pack covers, wear our moisture-wicking quick-dry pants and shirts that we already have and just deal with it.
HikingUpward.com is a great site for hiking in the Mid-Altantic area. They have a step-by-step guide for the trails and other people who have already done the trail can leave comments about their experience. They also has a calorie burn calculator for each of the trails. On this 16 miler, I'll burn 2,688 and DH will burn 4,200.
Which is good to know when packing food! We're going for calorie-dense foods that are pre-packaged (1 freeze-dried meal for Saturday night, packets of soup, cliff bars, trail mix, babybel cheese and crackers etc).
Tonight, I'll be shopping and packing (and doing some much needed yoga :) We're leaving around 8 tomorrow so we can stop at REI (a tent pole broke last camp trip) on the way and still get out there at a decent time.
I'll blog about our adventure when we get home :) Have a great weekend everyone!
PS- So far, so good with my being back on track. The hiking this weekend will be a nice change too. I like when my exercise is fun and doesn't feel like exercise. I felt that way on my run last night, which is a good sign!
