Life Happens!

Friday, August 16, 2013

After I posted yesterday about how smoothly the morning had gone, Sean's bus brought him home some 20 minutes ahead of the earliest time in his 10-minute window! We were so thankful we hadn't gone for a walk downtown or anywhere. Then, this morning, no bus 10 minutes AFTER the latest time in his pick-up window. Turned out, the scheduler had him listed as no pick-up on Friday. Last year, he never rode the bus HOME on Friday, because of the schedule David worked then. But I guess we'll never know how canceling that instruction turned into no AM pick-up. By the time the bus came, I was just getting back from walking Erik to school. Fortunately there are still two adults after David leaves. That way Grampie could put Sean on the bus, and Erik didn't have to be late.

Afternoons are a lot more mellow than mornings. Turns out Sean will consistently get home 15-20 minutes earlier than we'd first thought. That's a good thing, because it will get him fed and down for a nap just that little bit earlier. Again, we're thankful for two adults. Yesterday, I was able to leave Sean asleep with Grampie home, while I went for Erik. Last year, David was having to wake him in order to go.

With Erik home and Sean awake, it's snack time for boys and coffee time for Nana and Grampie. If yesterday is any indication, Sean won't eat much (12:30 lunch), but Erik will eat anything I put in front of him (11:10 lunch). Coffee and snacks are served on the deck when the weather is as gorgeous as it currently is. I checked Erik's backpack during snack time. Then Paul and Sean walked Pita while Erik and I walked Christmas. Erik is VERY proud of being 6, because he can one be the one to hold Christmas's leash!

We finished up with just sitting and talking time for Paul and me while the boys played in the yard. Again, the blessing of two adults pays off, because I could come in a bit before David got here in order to start supper. Fridays are likely to be the easiest, because the boys' mother will usually pick them up only an hour after Erik gets home.

So now you know about our after-school routine. Next time will be my bedtime routine. The after-supper routine will be a bit sketchy until we're all in the same house, so I don't plan to write about that much before the end of the month.

It takes a couple days to smooth out a new routine. You're handling it. Best to you!

It's hard when new school years start to figure out what the schedule will be. UGH!

AT least it's Friday.
