I love my commute!

Friday, August 16, 2013

Riding my mountain bike to work is one of the best things I have done for my health (physical and mental). I no longer own a car, and it has been surprisingly liberating.

My decision to do so came partially from a desire to be more "green", and also because I realized that the beginning of my weight gain coincided with becoming car dependent rather than using the bus/bike/feet to get around.

- rainy days
- being passed up for promotions that require a car
- ease of running errands
- cold days
- scary drivers
- having to change clothes
- cost of bus pass
- occasional arrival at work with skinned knees

- exercise
- fresh air
- watching the sunrise
- cutting through the park
- saving tons of money by not owning a car
- not using petroleum products (Big Government, do you hear me?)
- having to be organized about clothing and lunches and errands
- inability to drive by and grab an unhealthy meal or snack on the go
- weight loss
- visible leg muscles
- save cost of gym membership
- knowledge that I am not harming the earth

... and this!

Happy trails!

Beautiful bike trail. Funny my DH and I were talking about when our car bites the dust, we might start taking the bus. He does ride his bike for short errands if it isn't to hot. Bus pass in the long run isn't as expensive as car ins. emoticon

I don't ride to work, I take my Bike on the bus(safety issues), but I do ride home. I LOVE it!! It is my decompression after a busy day, and I love the way I feel after. emoticon emoticon

Wow, no car! That's so great! Wouldn't it be nice if we all lived close enough to work that we could all go carless? My work is atop a massive mountain (okay, so maybe it's just a huge hill) so I'd never make it up on a bike. But if I lived closer, I'd gladly walk it. Looks like you've got a pretty nice bike trail in your pic. Stay safe and ride on! emoticon

That is an awesome decision! So proud of you for doing something so major for yourself and the environment! I must admit I'm a little jealous that you can, since we live 35 miles from where hubby works and 25 miles from the nearest shopping. Pros and cons to everything. Your pro list makes me happy!
