Komputaa-wa chotto...

Thursday, August 15, 2013

Translated the title is: The computer is a little bit...

Chotto is a polite way to say that something (in this case the computer), but it can be anything, isn't working, or isn't going to work. Or in other words today's entry is going to be short. I just changed to a new computer, and I'm having trouble convincing it to let me type with my beloved Dvorak set-up instead of the standard Qwerty - with the result that I'm using hunt-and-peck instead of my usual fairly rapid touch-typing. I'll get it straight soon (I'd better with the amount I type), along with figuring out how to convert my document files so they can be read (Losing three complete novels is so not an option), But in the meanwhile typing is very annoying.

Use of chotto is very easy. Just take your noun, add "wa", and follow it with chotto. Done!

Later all. Be well.

That's a new one for me. I will have to look into it.

_Linda, I heard about the Dvorak set-up from other authors, who were very enthusiastic about how much it helped them with repetitive motion injury from the massive amounts of typing being an author requires. The Qwerty keyboard was literally designed to make typing slow, because of early manual typewriters' tendencies to tangle levers and jam. The Dvorak board was designed to minimize motion (in English, letter frequencies vary in other languages), and speed things up as much as possible. I switched about three years ago, and haven't looked back since.

Interesting! What got you into the alternate keyboard typing? In the ancient old manual typewriter days qwerty was all there was :P
Hope you can rescue your books..
