SUMMER IN FORT LAUDERDALE PART 5

Thursday, August 15, 2013

(AS I SAID THIS SERIES IS FROM 2 YEARS AGO--WE DIDN'T GET ANY AVOCADOS LAST YEAR BUT JUST 2 WEEKS AGO JOHN SPOTTED SOME--THOUGH IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE THE CROP WE GOT IN 2011--AROUND 75 OF THEM--IT LOOKS LIKE A DOZEN SO DON'T KNOW HOW LONG THEIR 'SEASON' WILL LAST! THE BOTTOM PICTURE ARE 2 OF THE 7 THAT JOHN CUT DOWN THIS WEEKEND)

I have lived in this apartment for 7 and a half years and have taken (and posted) dozens of pictures of the trees behind my apartment from the walkway/balcony. It wasn't until today, and only because I had written a 'reprimand' to John for not showing up at the 'meeting of the mindless' on the breezeway a couple of evenings having seen him the night before in the smoking area (he doesn't smoke) with my neighbors, behind my building, and he told me about the avocados! Look at that tree and how loaded it is!

I could almost reach out and grab a few avocados from my windows and I didn't see them! Well neither did most of you!

It seems that every day brings more riches into my life from living where I do, living how I do and the avocados are just a symbol of those riches. People wonder why I am so positive and feel I have it made when I get up in the morning! I am a happy, health, wealthy man!

For those who were here 2 years ago you may remember I took one of the pits from an avocado, from that tree that I had eaten, and started to grow it. Eventually I planted it near the library and it grew up to 8 feet when one of the lawn maintenance men came along pulled it up and threw it out--NO COMMENTS!

The last picture are 2 of the avocados from this years crop!

Hope your summer is going as great as mine is!

Come on down and get YOUR avocado!

"Give your cats something other than already established houseplants to play with. Avocado pits make excellent toys . . . and felines find them fascinating because the lopsided seeds never roll the same way twice."

love avocados. save me some for winter, that is when I will come pick them up. Winter here is brutal so any excuse to escape and going to get avocados is as good as any. emoticon emoticon

ps I have a kitty so he will love the pits.
