A New Start...

Well, I've been away for... about two years, I see. I let myself go quite a bit during that time, gaining back all the weight I had previously lost. To be perfectly honest, it felt terrible.
Admittedly, I had a lot on my plate, both literally and figuratively. I was dealing with the dawning realization that I was in an emotionally abusive relationship which was starting to turn physically violent, recovery from one surgery, and health problems which led to another surgery... all while working with a lawyer I couldn't really afford to regain custody of my son.
Now, things have finally settled down. Due to my severe acid reflux (I had stomach acid in my lungs & sinuses!) I had a laproscopic nissen fundoplication surgery at the end of June, and as is normal for these surgeries I lost 30 pounds in recovery. This was a bit of a jump-start for me, and the relief from the reflux allowed me to be more active than I've ever been comfortable with as an adult (it was easier when I was a teenager, admittedly). I started going for hikes, and doing a lot of things that the acid in my lungs made me feel too tired to do before. It's rather fantastic.
Needless to say, feeling so much better helped get me to a point where I want to get back on track & lose more weight. That said, I've since discovered a phone app which is far easier for me than sparkpeople for food and exercise tracking, but I missed the social networking aspects of the site, so here I am! Feel free to say hi to me! I'm pretty busy but I do check in at least once a week or so.
