Recovery almost here

Thursday, August 15, 2013

July 21st at 11:45pm I was sitting on my swing on the porch with my legs up, the bolt came out of the ceiling and the swing slammed to the floor. I must have put my right hand out to stop the fall. I got up and noticed my m\nail was broken and after saying "damn now I have to get this fixed" I noticed my thumb was not bent at the right angle and my bone was sticking out. I was sure it was broken. emoticon

I went and grabbed a towel, wrapped it lightly, held it in the air and after letting the dogs in and opening my gates I drove to Immediate Care, which closed at 11. While I had been driving I had my car call my daughter and told her VERY loudly that I broke my thumb. She aid she'd meet me at Immediate Care. Right after I saw that it was closed, my gas light went on. I sound calm now but believe me, I was freaking out because now what? I drove to Kroger to get gas.

This is when my daughter and her bf showed up. She put some gas in and then we parked my car and drove to the emergency room. They got me right in after looking at my thumb. Both my daughter and her bf would not look and even turned their chairs around when the dr or nurse looked at my thumb.

Anyway I think the worst pain of all was the numbing of my thumb. I finally was released at 4:30am 7/22, the day before my birthday. I did go out to dinner that night but the rest of the week was on pain meds. Three days after this I woke up to my left hand and entire forearm swollen and had to go in to the dr. So then I had a brace on both hands....

I am now without any braces and just a small covering over the stitches in my right thumb. They are slowly dissolving, but I can't really bend it at that first knuckle yet. Progress is slow but moving. I am just afraid of reinjuring it. No more physical therapy and have to go back in a month.

My best sign of progress is that I can almost button and zip things, but I can tie my shoes so I can wear tennis! Now if I can get out of yoga pants and progress to big girl pants lol

Still looking for a job, so I guess this was probably the best time for this to happen if it had to. Put me in your prayers, I could use a few extra emoticon

Thank you to all of you. The thumb is still healing and bending a bit more every day. I also got an interview for Monday to teach English but I have to teach a 10 min lesson. I am actually a relatively shy person in new situations, though many wouldn't believe that and I am getting very nervous. emoticon
