Hello FRAN, my name is Kate. Yup, not time to chat with that one... Fran is one of the benchmark workouts for crossfit. The idea behind the benchmarks is to complete these every few months to measure progress. They are also ones that are understood worldwide. I could run into someone who does crossfit in Japan, ask "what's your Fran time?" and we'd be on the same page. Anyways, yesterday was my first experience with a benchmark workout. I heard a lot of moaning and complaining as we were doing our warm up. Apparently Fran doesn't have a whole lot of friends... The workout sounds straight forward and uncomplicated, but runs you into the ground quite early and you just have to keep on going. Fran is:
rounds of 21, 15, 9 reps, for time (10 minute cap)
- thrusters ~ Rx weight is 65lbs, I did 55lbs :)
- pull-ups ~ I used the green resistance band for some help
finished in 6:44
55lb thrusters?! This kid was way happy with THAT! Only a 5lb plate per side away from Rx! I'm getting stronger! Two or so months from now, we will meet Fran again and I will have something to compare to. Goal for next round, Rx weight and learn how to do kipping pull-ups.
Giving my body a day off today. Yesterday was going to be my rest day, but when I saw Fran was scheduled, I wanted to meet her! So today it is... I find days off so hard. My body is relieved for the break, but my mind is chomping at the bit to get back at it. There's always tomorrow I guess ;) plus when I saw more double unders on the menu for today's WOD, that sealed the deal! Day off it is! It'll give me a chance to cook after work too :) I feel a batch of chili in the works... (minus the fries. This recipe is AMAZING! I make it with chicken or turkey and eat with spaghetti squash. Even my non-Paleo family request this one often!)
