I made it to the gym today, but it was a close call. I generally get off at 4 p.m. but today it was 5 o'clock before I left. As I was going to my car there was that internal debate of going to the gym or going straight home since it was so late. I mentally kicked myself and said "Late for what?" I have no one to make dinner for, no one counting on me to do anything or be anywhere. The only thing I need to do is what I had pledged to do - GO TO THE GYM. So I went. I didn't spend the whole hour but I did get a good 40 minutes on the stationary bicycle. Today was cross-training day.

I checked the schedule at the gym and discovered that the days that I've scheduled for cross-training are the days they have lap swimming. I can now add a different exercise to my regime. As a teen I swam laps constantly. I tried out for the swim team but wasn't fast enough. I realize I won't be fast, and I don't have the breath I used to have (COPD) - but I can do 1 lap at a time.

I am feeling the effects of going back to the gym. My stomach muscles have a slight ache to them and my achilles tendons ache. My calves are tender and my upper arms protest when I make certain moves. It's good that I remembered about cross-training. I'm making a training program so that I can be ready for a 5K on September 14th.

    That kind of pain just reminds you, you are making progress! Great job on hitting the gym late. That determination will make all the difference!
